I don’t understand the hype
Revisado: 08-07-24
Except for some sexy descriptions of “lovemaking” between the two main characters, this is more or less a YA series. Childish. One must suspend disbelief to read about faeries, but when the author reveals the evil queen’s very very specific “plot” that just happens to be the exact events happening to our two darlings- - - aw c’mon! Please. I just can’t. Also the narrator drags it out even more than it’s already dragged out. Listening at 1.2 speed and it’s still agonizingly slow. I have 1.5 hours left and already purchased the second book. Ugh

Horrible
Revisado: 06-13-21
synopsis:. An interviewer shows remarkable patience while his subject (who certainly exhibits hallmarks of mental illness) snickers, deflects, and behaves in an annoying passive aggressive manner while answering or refusing to answer his questions.
There seems to be no point to the story. The woman becomes increasingly irritating while the man shows no signs of realizing that there is no story. Had to stop before episode 4. Just couldn't with the female character.

Historia
Scattered about the galaxy were the time-space Gates of a vanished but not forgotten alien race. In their time, long before the rise of the native civilizations, they had terrorized a hundred worlds—not from villainy but from folly, from tampering with the strands that held a universe together.
Now the task was to uproot these Gates, destroy their potency for mischief, take horror out of the hands of the few who hungered for power by misuse of the Gates.

The Book of Morgaine is an all-time favorite. I was excited to see the audiobooks, but the narrator isn't exactly right for Vanye or Morgaine... too girlish and breathy. Also she speaks so fast that it's distracting from the story. I slowed down the narration to .8 speed which really helped.

Convicted criminal James Griffin-Mars is no one's hero. In his time, Earth is a toxic, abandoned world, and humans have fled into the outer solar system to survive, eking out a fragile, doomed existence among the other planets and their moons. Those responsible for delaying humanity's demise believe time travel holds the key, and they have identified James, troubled though he is, as one of a select and expendable few ideally suited for the most dangerous job in history.

Good sci-fi story. The narrator is awful. Shattner-esque. Constantly pausing between the words of a sentence or dialogue. Very distracting.

Great narration. He switched effortlessly from male to female, Australian to Chinese, British to American.
This story spans decades. At one point I was not sure that I could listen to any more about the prisoner of war camp, but the topic soon shifted to another aspect of the story.
It took me weeks of intermittent listening to finish this book, but only because of time and opportunity constraints on my part.

Historia
Saiya Buchanan is a wraith, able to detach her shadow from her body and send it off to do her bidding. But, unlike most of her kin, Saiya doesn't deal in death. Instead, she trades secrets - and in the goblin besieged city of Stirling in Scotland, they're a highly prized commodity. It might just be, however, that the goblins have been hiding the greatest secret of them all. When Gabriel de Florinville, a Dark Elf, is sent as royal envoy into Stirling and takes her prisoner, Saiya is not only going to uncover the sinister truth.

A Harlequin type Romance with mythical beings
Revisado: 09-21-18
The narrator is good. I enjoyed her style. However the storyline seems predictable in many ways, which caused me to lose interest about halfway through.
One distraction: The narrator (speaking as the dark elf) always intones the Wraith's name in a rather sinister way. I kept thinking "Luke, I am your Father".

Historia
Jacob Hunt is a teen with Asperger's syndrome. He's hopeless at reading social cues or expressing himself well to others, though he is brilliant in many ways. But he has a special focus on one subject - forensic analysis. A police scanner in his room clues him in to crime scenes, and he's always showing up and telling the cops what to do. And he's usually right. But when Jacob's small hometown is rocked by a terrible murder, law enforcement comes to him. Jacob's behaviors are hallmark Asperger's, but they look a lot like guilt to the local police.

A few inconsistencies but entertaining
Revisado: 07-21-18
I loved the premise: boy with Asperger's becomes suspect in murder case. I also enjoyed the narration; with multiple narrators there was little confusion as to who was speaking.
My issue with the story comes from the information provided about Asperger's syndrome and the actions of the boy's mother, doctor, and even the police detective. Having learned that Jacob is likely to answer questions truthfully yet not have the ability to "read" people, why do they never ask him straightforward questions about what happened the day his tutor was found dead? They ask more vague questions than anyone who is investigating murder should ask a suspect, and they INFER things from his answers that may be true from Jacob's understanding of the questions, yet are not the truth they seek.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Good and Not So Good
Revisado: 05-28-18
I rarely review stories. I read reviews and admire people who can intelligently comment on character development etc. However, I feel compelled in this case to put in my 2 cents.
The story is interesting, fast paced, and has an unusual plot. There is comedy, tragedy, love, and madness. The ending is tidy but not rushed. All good, right?
The Not So Good: The author used "S/he shrugged" "He shook his head" and, sometimes "He shrugged and shook his head" about a million times. Seriously, those phrases repeated constantly are hooks that pull the reader out of the story over and over.
The narrator: Although he did a passable Indian accent, he sounded almost robotic throughout the narration. He paused at odd intervals during sentences. Towards the end, it reminded me of that kid in 3rd or 4th grade who had to read aloud, and you knew he was sounding words out as he stumbled through the sentences. Holy Cow!
