Midnight. Some call it the witching hour. Others call it the devil’s hour. Here in the graveyard, midnight is a very special time. It is a time when ghostly spirits are at their strongest, when the veil between our world and theirs is at its thinnest. Legend has it, that while most of the world is asleep, the lack of prayers allow the spirits to communicate under the cover of darkness, among the headstones, their whispers rustling in the leaves of the old oak trees. But if you’re here in the graveyard, you can tell yourself it’s just the wind....

Delighted by the creativity!
Revisado: 08-21-21
The horror genre has slipped into gore and pseudo science it seems. Steven King was able to take us to a regular place and terrify the senses. He used what we are accustomed to believe to show monsters are indeed under the bed and thank you, you don’t even need to see to know that.
Not since Mr King, with his Alfred Hitchcock approach, have stories such as in this book offered refreshing, original, and the terminal to normality. Lately the horror genres has indeed been swinging back to the Masters of Horror and a new writer maturity evident. I am very excited with these authors. Good job!

I simply loved this book!
Revisado: 07-28-21
It is hard enough doing the human thing with stupid things like say political parties thrown into that humanity. We don’t give credit to those (women, race, economic, age, immigration) people whose human-ness has to exceed normal expectations to succeed.
Is it the accomplishments of a long life that determines success? Could you still be accomplished if things fell apart and you still stand up again? …And show the best attributes we are capable of?
These questions are framed and you really gain perspective if you didn’t have a clue:) I loved the human-ness quality of the book, & the narration. Being from San Diego I also love the Reggae slant…I hope even that small part of culture introduced may enlighten tolerance by listeners unfamiliar with that life.
Again, I simply loved this book!

Historia
One day, on her way to a date, Isabella Huffington gets hit by a bike. What begins as a concussion with a diagnosed recovery time of seven-to-ten days becomes more than two years of debilitating pain with no apparent end and a string of unhelpful doctor and specialist visits. In the wreckage, jobs are canceled. Leases are broken. There is no second date. What’s left is Isabella, her body, and her pain. Because the source of her pain cannot be located within the body, she is told over and over that her pain is psychosomatic. And Isabella believes it, over and over.

It is alarming to see yourself…
Revisado: 07-23-21
I am writing about content. The delivery was very good but I was riveted by the content. I was an accident victim in 2016 suffering a severe concussion as well as a broken neck & back. I finally had back & neck surgery in the next two years after the accident, but the most alarming injury was what happened in my brain. I couldn’t find words to express myself, only somewhat successful now but not up to the old me. My short term memory was affected and still is. I used to have basically a photographic memory. And the California DMV wanted my license. A big truck was being driven by a man texting hitting me at a red light at double the speed limit.
I still cannot accept the changes. As with this author. You get tired of explaining to a new doctor what you have overcome and this is my problem now. So you learn to just deal with who you are. Pain? A condition that never leaves. Then I had to retire early to meet medical demands.
Good job on this piece. I can actually give this to family and say, here i am. I finally have the words…

I seem to belong #representing#
Revisado: 04-10-21
I am a warrior & survivor. I recognized both myself and my family, mostly public servants. When I slide in at the end I can both smile & look myself in the mirror, having done so many extraordinary things staying put wouldn’t have allowed. But the funny thing was adventure found me, first by being moved kicking & screaming to life happening. In extraordinary times & conditions I learned to make use of every I knew to meet challenges both intended or unintended. Then went thru all the death acceptances with almost ease.
I suppose if you haven’t seen life in the manner this author, or even me, have seen it, some of what the author says will go over the top of your comprehension. This isn’t just a recounting of survival stories. It is a wise instruction of managing life happening without the victimisation attitude. Life does happen, how will YOU interpret it will create your survival skills.
I loved listening to this book. It was well narrated and composed. Definitely a solid 5.

We Are Tribe, all of us valorous
Revisado: 03-26-21
I cried in so many places listening to this book. I am from San Diego and my daughter served Navy Aviation, North Island, San Diego. She would text “I love you momma” before dangerous encounters. I know of all these San Diego places, could see them vividly as I listened.
My girl also served on the jets that took the Seals out. They brought the dead of many kinds of Service Persons home. She was also a member of the Honour Guard.
When she joined I asked her, What should I do if something happens to you? She said, momma be proud of me. Thus I began to understand the Valour required of this special tribe.
She is now a police officer and I listen with my heart breaking, but by all that is Holy, I will be that ear that witnesses such honour, bravery & Valour. She also serves as Honour Guard as a policewoman.
We are Tribe.

Historia
Decades before the American Revolution, Benjamin Franklin lamented that English settlers were constantly fleeing over to the Indians - but Indians almost never did the same. Tribal society has been exerting an almost gravitational pull on Westerners for hundreds of years, and the reason lies deep in our evolutionary past as a communal species. The most recent example of that attraction is combat veterans who come home to find themselves missing the incredibly intimate bonds of platoon life.

This is one of the most profound expositions to explain our human condition I have read in many years. As a social scientist I stand in awe of the cohesion & simplicity of his thesis that I recognize in the tired systems commonly used to diagnose social ills. Bravo!

Awesome book!
Revisado: 04-28-20
I thoroughly enjoyed this book:) The narration was always engaging & the character believable. I am usually a documentary geek, or history buff, and a work of fiction has to mirror the same sort of format of flow & peer review scrutiny. And for me fiction has to capture my imagination. This book was such a fiction. I also liked the contemporary characters; and because of the cohesiveness of the story it would appeal to a range of audiences that like a good crime story.

A landmark in travel writing, this is the incredible true story of Heinrich Harrer’s escape across the Himalayas to Tibet, set against the backdrop of the Second World War. Heinrich Harrer, already one of the greatest mountaineers of his time, was climbing in the Himalayas when war broke out in Europe. He was imprisoned by the British in India but succeeded in escaping and fled to Tibet.

Revisado: 07-31-19
I have always loved the movie Seven Years in Tibet, tho at times it seems to drag. But the story is ever endearing to my heart.
In this audible version the narrator is exceptional as is the unexpected interest inspiring facts and flow of Mr Harrer’s book. Combined this is truly a masterpiece that does the significance of the story proud.
Thank you.

Great book, narration
Revisado: 05-28-19
I enjoyed this audible book but soon became alarmed that a dog may die in it. Since Old Yeller I haven’t watched a movie or read a book with a dog dying in it since i was a kid. I believe an innocent animal killed, even fictiously, isn’t good entertainment.
Fortunately i went to the end with the author & i approve.
Sometimes the story was long in unraveling but still a good tale to be told:)

New Insights
Revisado: 05-25-19
Having grown up in America during the Cold War I have always searched for insightful historical reviews to understand that time period. I guess I was angry that as a child I had to hide under my desk for a nuclear strike & I wanted to understand why.
I heard also all the indoctrination about the “Communist Scare”. And false flag situations.
I believe any academic view of history should educate & increase better judgment. As history has shown, better judgment is clouded by intents not governed by honorable reasons and we still keep shaking our heads at the folly.
During this audible book I learned a deal more about Communism & perhaps why it was more serious than my knowledge provided over the years. Dear Mao was indeed out to find new countries, like Tibet in 1959. However the information provided here gave an insight into the competition going on between the USDR & China, and expansionist ideas.
The focus on West Berlin in this writing connected problems of the Kennedy Administration with the Cuban missile crisis. For all the mistakes President Kennedy may have made, I still applaud his thinking outside the war box. I would have liked to have seen in this how it would have been difficult to combat group think as a new president. I have heard he used few close advisors because thinking outside of war wasn’t a part of the solution being offered.
I still believe this offers fresh insight, in grand chronological order, to flesh out the issues so immense that faced a new president. I applaud the author. Well done.
