Historia
Jack might be a polished, Harvard-educated lawyer on paper, but everyone in the down-at-the-heels, if picturesque, village of Onset, Massachusetts, knows his real job: moving people on the run from powerful enemies. The family business—co-managed with his father, a retired spy—is smooth sailing, as they fill up Onset’s holiday homes during the town’s long, drowsy off-season and help clients shed their identities in preparation for fresh starts.

I don't review often but this book was a well written winner. In addition, it's well performed.

Historia
Galaxy “Alex” Stern is the most unlikely member of Yale’s freshman class. Raised in the Los Angeles hinterlands by a hippie mom, Alex dropped out of school early and into a world of shady drug-dealer boyfriends, dead-end jobs, and much, much worse. In fact, by age twenty, she is the sole survivor of a horrific, unsolved multiple homicide. Some might say she’s thrown her life away. But at her hospital bed, Alex is offered a second chance: to attend one of the world’s most prestigious universities on a full ride. What’s the catch, and why her?

Engrossing
Revisado: 10-22-19
I listened to this on a long drive and I was so engrossed that I almost didn't mind the hour and a half traffic Jam. The main character is complex, and the supporting characters are well drawn too, As a High School librarian, I have read, enjoyed and recommended the author's YA books, but Ninth house is on a whole other level (and definitely for an adult audience.)

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

Bad match of Narrator and story
Revisado: 02-19-15
What did you like best about The Golem and the Jinni? What did you like least?
It was an interesting premise. I did not think the Narrator's voice worked for this lyrical sort of writing. His voice was very pleasant and mellow, but did not change much in tonality. I did not finish the book because I fell asleep every time I played it. Like clockwork. It should be marketed as an insomnia cure. This does not happen with other books I listen to.
Would you listen to another book narrated by George Guidall?
Probably not.
Any additional comments?
The story was good. I would like to see where it was going. I am kinda disappointed.

Don't miss this series!

Any additional comments?
This series is very popular in the UK and I can see why. It is funny (I don't laugh out loud while listening to a book very often) yet you really care about the characters. the match of narrator to book is smack on target here. Kobna Holbrook-Smith channels Peter Grant perfectly. He's no slouch when it comes to the other voices, either.By the way, this isn't posh London- this is gritty streets of London, immigrants and all. I loved every book in the series and can't wait for the next audible book to be published. Though the writing is excellent, I can't imagine reading this series and missing the narrator's spot on performance.

Historia
Body and soul. The song. That's what London constable and sorcerer's apprentice Peter Grant first notices when he examines the corpse of Cyrus Wilkins, part-time jazz drummer and full-time accountant, who dropped dead of a heart attack while playing a gig at Soho's 606 Club. The notes of the old jazz standard are rising from the body - a sure sign that something about the man's death was not at all natural but instead supernatural.

A riot of a good time
Revisado: 10-16-14
Have you listened to any of Kobna Holdbrook-Smith’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Kobna Holdbrook-Smith knocks these Peter Grant books out of the park. I love the sound of his voice, and his characters make the story come alive. He just sounds like London. I loved listening to the first book- Midnight Riot- and this book too. The story is good, but in the hands of a lesser performer it would not have come roaring of the page the way it does. Highly recommend.
