This is ridiculous. I mean seriously. I work for years, since I was in high school for crap’s sake, to be prepared for any emergency, anytime. I study, I train, I keep up with the news. I look for new products, I scour the web for suggestions about things I should always have on hand. I took training courses.

"Welcome to the Pelaran Alliance...." With those simple words, the Guardian spacecraft openly revealed itself to humanity, heralding a new chapter in its 500-year-long mission to cultivate our world. Earth's population must now make its first planet-wide decision - join the most powerful alliance in our galaxy or chart our own course, deciding for ourselves which civilizations are worthy of our trust. Will we be the first world to decline the Pelarans' invitation, or does their offer come with an implied threat?

It really is too bad the way this was broken out into books. I can get behind the long lead up quick action type books but they at least have to advance the plot sufficiently so you feel like something got done. In this case you feel sad and unfulfilled even though the overall story is engaging

Hey Ladies, if you know this guy you die!!
Revisado: 10-04-21
So I have been listening to this set of books and to be honest I am still listening even though I thought several times about quiting. So maybe it is growing on me. I can't fault the narration, it's good.
So far, without spoiling, the books go as follows.
Guy just happens to be around and finds dead body
Guy partially involves himself in the investigation
Guy gets hurt, passes out and wakes up in hospital during questionable investigation process but never gets arrested for the obvious felonies committed during pre knockout activities.
Some female he know or cares about is killed, and blamed on him or dumped in his house, boat, car, whatever.
he bumbles about
3-6 more females die in or around his property
He solves the crime and saves the hottest from a terrible death.
At the start of the next book the hot chick has dumped him and he has moved.
Some new hot chick destined to die shows up...rinse and repeat

Revisado: 03-26-21
So I tried with this one and made it till 11hrs were left. Don't get me wrong 70% of this book is good. My problem lies with the difficulty swap. in some parts every mile is piled with danger and complications and paints the picture that even minimal travel is uber difficult, then the next time you reconnect with the principal they have travelled 500-1000 miles cross country. But hey, you understand the slog was hard and that it would make for a boring book, so you accept that. Then a previous nemesis that was left behind who clearly would not have the interest or wherewithal to both create and manage a group of evildoers and then also teleport across country to a place they had no idea where it was or that it would be the protagonists destination just to enact revenge? I give up

It’s funny, I stumble upon KTs books every now and then and every time I enjoy it. I think the only reason my library isn’t stacked with her books is because I seem to always catch the first in the series and by the time the next one comes out I have forgotten about it.

Historia
ISIS delivered a devastating attack, crippling not just one city, as on 9-11, but the entire country. The government, while disbursing critical supplies, decided that this was an excellent time to consolidate power, and for one senator, the chance to lock in the presidency. An opportunity to bring the right-wing, anti-federal-government gun fanatics to heel. The government moved quickly to disarm the populace, using control of food and fuel as weapons, but things did not go quite as expected.

One of the better "fall of America" series
Revisado: 05-15-19
This book is actually great. The pacing is decent, character development good, premise and action/consequence sequences are believable. It's a series that makes you think about vulnerabilities in the systems around you and how easy it would be for a small distributed group of bad actors to disrupt daily life. Mostly focuses on a few locations but puts up a believable scenario for the attacks even if it does broad brush Muslims and the government a bit. But hey, it's a fall of America book which are typically right leaning and someone has to be the great evil. Fiction is fiction so relax and enjoy. Just don't spend too much time thinking about how this author basically laid out a viable attack roadmap that would most likely be successful. Cause he did.

In this book, the initial devastating attack described in book one is basically complete, and the government is struggling with control, while individuals and families deal with a now lawless, fuel-less country with poor communication and increasing risk of starvation. There are only nine meals between civilization and anarchy, it has been said. And so it is, as we are well past nine meals.

Interesting listen
Revisado: 05-15-19
This book and the previous one are interesting listens. the pacing is decent, character development good, premise and action/consequence sequences are believable. It's a series that makes you think about vulnerabilities in the systems around you and how easy it would be for a small distributed group of bad actors to disrupt.
I would highly recommend it as long as you are able to set aside that one plot assumption every mil-syfi, post apocalyptic, zombie fiction book seems to have. Most are right leaning, some are left leaning but....as in this book you have to be willing to accept that everyone who works for the 'gubment' in any capacity is evil, corrupt, incompetent or at best naive and weak willed.
In this book...Everyone. Absolutely everyone in the fed, city and state government is painted as above. From the janitor to the security contractors to the admins to anyone officer level up in military to every public servant. Every single person is willing to stand aside and follow or give morally objectionable, openly psychopathic orders and make sure they get their piece of the spoils Everyone in any position of power is so incompetent they can't manage simple organization tasks, personnel management and yet they were able to somehow able to put in place a multilayered plan and logistics to subdue an entire populace and get into that position of power?
In all honesty I get it and can suspend disbelief. But just once I wish an author wouldn't take the easy way out. What would make a good book series like this into a great series would be also showing the machinations of the diabolical faction and how they subdued, coopted, destroyed the forces that tried to stop/leak the plans. I wish it would show the true grayscale that exists and how that played into the plots. Instead we get the same old us against them. Hard working "true Americans" vs Big City "Snowflakes". same ole, same ole.

here is how you can listen to this....
Revisado: 04-06-19
alright....so for some reason the narrative talent decided to do some sort of verbal vomit style of acting. Actually having listened to the narrator I actually think it was a post production issue. Do yourself a favor and swap the narration speed to 0.95. If you do that then you will hear it as the narrator intended.
