Historia
On the run from trouble in 1824 St. Louis, James Beckwourth joins an expedition out West. As a freed slave, he struggles for respect, but makes a name for himself as a fighter in engagements with hostile tribes. He is captured by the Crow, who mistake him for a lost member of their tribe, kidnapped as a child. Celebrated in his own time but forgotten since, this is the astonishing story of James Beckwourth: A freed slave who became a prominent war chief of the Crow tribe, and later returned to white society on his own terms.

Fascinating! Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this well-woven piece of historical fiction, with masterfully written (the appropriately subtle) references to issues that are relevant today.

This book really helped me improve my sleep!
Revisado: 01-17-25
Enjoyable to listen to, easy to implement, practical and effective. I had previously read two other sleep books that were interesting but not particularly helpful. Halfway through this book, I was already much more satisfied with my sleep quality and duration, and feeling energized throughout the day as well. Highly recommend!

Barely skims the surface
Revisado: 07-25-24
The book is so broad, so non-specific, and so shallow, it barely begins to address what it says it addresses. Much of the content makes obvious, common sense comments but fails to delve any further (for example, it recommends that you price your product high enough to make a profit, but not so high that people won’t buy it… then it’s on to the next obvious common sense suggestion without any further discussion). I don’t know that I’ve ever been so disappointed in a business or finance publication. It’s so lacking in insight and truly useful information, I suspect it was written by AI. A waste of my time and money.

Historia
When Edward Cullen and Bella Swan met in Twilight, an iconic love story was born. But until now, fans have heard only Bella's side of the story. At last, listeners can experience Edward's version in the long-awaited companion novel, Midnight Sun. This unforgettable tale as told through Edward's eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting Bella is both the most unnerving and intriguing event he has experienced in all his years as a vampire.

The rumination, the angst, repeated over and over and over and over. No one needs to spend this much time in Edward’s head.

Good solid piece of historical fiction
Revisado: 07-30-19
Really enjoyed this novel, learned a lot about Cuba! Didn’t give it five stars across-the-board because at times the learnings were not well woven into the story, but rather seemed forced. Overall, enjoyable and interesting, a lot of good information and worth reading, but not a masterpiece.

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Historia
Make sure the kids aren’t around! Just because you’re a grown-up doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the art of the children’s bedtime story. Nick Offerman presents this collection of 12 short stories written in the style of a classic kids' tale, but with a decidedly dark and adult approach. What really happened after Snow White died, from the perspective of the one medically trained dwarf? A naive wizard professor reports back from the trenches of an underprivileged school of magic. And much more!

Not particularly amusing nor clever
Revisado: 05-10-19
Big fan of Nick Offerman, so I forced myself to listen to the entire program. The story about the dog and the one about the dwarves were intelligent and funny, but the others weren’t worth the time to listen to - I would have found them humorous when I was in middle school, but the plots and twists were not at all impressive to my adult mind.

Historia
In 1914, the war which was to have been wrapped up by Christmas had - in reality - only just begun, as all sides entrenched themselves deeper into the Great War. Christmas Eve, 1914 follows one company of British officers as they rotate forward to spend their Christmas on the front lines, a mere 80 yards from the German guns. Upper- and working-class men and boys are thrown together into one trench and struggle to survive.
