Historia
Adventure. It's what my boring life is missing, so when I fall through a portal into another world, I'm excited. Here, I'm important. Here, I'm special. I find out just how special when I meet Death. He's been exiled to the mortal realm to work through his flaws, and he's just as spoiled and awful as you'd think. Rhagos, the Shadow Lord, is arrogant and rude and controlling and demands to get his way. He's selfish. He's impossible. He's also utterly gorgeous.

Ruby Dixon is legendary.. this one is kinda meh
Revisado: 07-16-24
I loved Aron in the first book. Personality, some humanity, complexity. Funny and interesting. Rhagos is very one-note. It’s hard to stay engaged. And Max… Max is no Faith. Max is whiney and also one-note. Literally one of the quotes is “I want to help them. I want to help everyone”…. Booooring. For a gamer, she has no grasp on this world. I would’ve expected her to be a little stronger and less of the “I want everyone to be happy and I have to save everyone” type. I’m struggling to finish but will do my best to complete bc Ruby Dixon is a goddess.

Hilarious & Heartwarming
Revisado: 04-17-24
The irreverence of our fmc is right up my alley. The humor is witty and had me laughing out loud. The story is sweet but a little fast. Like woah omg wait what? Type of fast. But still easy to follow (almost too easy maybe?). It’s a super quick read and worth the credit and the day it took me to finish it. I love the narrator but her male alpha voice was kinda goofy. Took me out of the spice and made me cringe a bit. Still super lovable and I recommend it if you want a breeze of a read with spice and laughs.

Casteel Da’Neer knows all too well that very few are as cunning or vicious as the Blood Queen, but no one, not even him, could’ve prepared for the staggering revelations. The magnitude of what the Blood Queen has done is almost unthinkable.

I will definitely update this when I finish it but…
Revisado: 02-03-24
I thought the lengthy, multiple chapter-long monologues about the scenery or the many repeated descriptors about the same bloody details we are definitely already aware of, was remedied in the last book. It definitely got a lot better. But I’ve already skipped multiple Poppy-perspective chapters and nothing has happened yet. She’s still a child. I hope the ending is good darn it.

Historia
Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

Stina’s Casteel is such a hottie
Revisado: 01-17-24
I love Stina’s performance. It’s the first single narrator audiobook that I’ve listened to that really took me out of the main character. I’m new to audiobooks so I’m sure this is the first of many! Can’t stand the internal monologues. Honestly Poppy could be so dang cool. But the character development just isn’t there for her like it is for her costars. Her snarky, immature comments just annoyed me and played into the genre cliches a little too much for my taste. Still love her and can’t wait to finish this series! So much more to learn about this world. Casteel is a dream and when his character falls into the cliches, I kinda like it. Anyways, loved it!

Historia
Everything Poppy has ever believed in is a lie, including the man she was falling in love with. Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden. But what she does know is that nothing is as dangerous to her as him. The Dark One. The Prince of Atlantia. He wants her to fight him, and that’s one order she’s more than happy to obey. He may have taken her, but he will never have her.

Great narrator, had to speed it up though
Revisado: 01-17-24
I love Stina’s performance; her Casteel & Kieran really work for me and add to the experience. I had to speed it up quite a bit because, like in the first of this series, Poppy talks a lot. It was worse in the first book, but still gratuitous. There is no real growth or character development if she’s still talking to herself about the same things, still concerned about the same ideas, and still has the same self-esteem issues despite all we’ve learned about her. The romance was a nice slow burn. The mystery of this story expertly maintains my interest and curiosity. Can’t wait to learn more about the truth of this crazy world Jennifer has created!
