Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

It made me wonder…
Revisado: 02-24-25
What happened to me? I don’t know… other than small things that may have shaped how I am. But nothing is significant enough to make me how I am, I think. In this book, they keep saying isolated life of modern society is bad for us, but I am happier alone, when I don’t have to talk to anyone, except my dog. So I wonder, what happened to me to be this way? It probably takes a professional to figure it out.

Historia
For years, Eddie Lee Sexton ruled his large family like Charles Manson. The depraved patriarch dominated his ragged brood of twelve children mentally, physically, and sexually, and enforced every cruelty imaginable, from vicious beatings to raping his daughters and fathering their children. Finally, in 1992, Sexton's eighteen-year-old daughter Machelle, seeking refuge in a women's shelter, revealed the shocking, sordid details of her father's abuse to authorities. As the law attempted to catch up to Eddie Lee Sexton, he moved his family to a mobile home in western Florida.

I have listened many true crime shows, but never heard of this!
Revisado: 08-20-24
The narrator’s voice is hard to hear in a moving car even when the volume is all the way up. Bit other than that, I enjoyed the book.

I know trafficking happens everywhere, but I wasn’t aware of what happened in England. It’s truly horrific. I hope there are more support for these girls now.

It was good at first, then he started mentioning god and bible a lot. I thought about stopping there, but I decided to continue. It didn’t get worse. The content was good enough to tolerate it mentioning religious teachings. Even if you are not Christian, I would recommend this if you know someone who is considering suicide

Historia
On a chilly November afternoon in 1998, a tearful 36-year-old man walked into the Humboldt County Sheriff's Department in Eureka, California, and confessed to something horrible. "I hurt some people," he said. Inside his pocket was the ghastly proof of his statement. But there was more to Wayne Adam Ford than the trail of mangled victims he left behind. More, even, than the twisted predator inside, which drove him to increasingly perverse sexual appetites.
