Historia
In 1885 Jane and Leland Stanford cofounded a university to honor their recently deceased young son. After her husband's death in 1893, Jane Stanford, a devoted spiritualist who expected the university to inculcate her values, steered Stanford into eccentricity and public controversy for more than a decade. In 1905 she was murdered in Hawaii, a victim, according to the Honolulu coroner's jury, of strychnine poisoning.

Story of Stanford University
Revisado: 01-30-24
I felt the story got bogged down in too much irrelevant information. It became tedious. It is more a story of the creation and growth of Stanford. Well researched and probably would be of more interest to Stanford alumni than the general public.

But when the two strike up a conversation - awkward but electrifying - something life changing begins. A year later, they’re both studying at Trinity College in Dublin. Marianne has found her feet in a new social world while Connell hangs at the sidelines, shy and uncertain. Throughout their years at university, Marianne and Connell circle one another.

I found the book depressing and pointless. I don’t understand why someone would write this story.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
The story is fresh. It held my interest all of the way through. I did not want the book to end. It made comparisons between life events that I would never thought of comparing. I liked the characters, even with their flaws.
What other book might you compare All I Love and Know to and why?
I can't think of any.
What about Peter Berkrot’s performance did you like?
The voices of the characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
not at first, but after about half way through
Any additional comments?
I have already recommended this book to a number of friends.

Revisado: 03-23-14
Would you try another book from James McBride and/or Michael Boatman?
maybe
Would you recommend The Good Lord Bird to your friends? Why or why not?
with reservations. I like historical fiction. In this book, I think the author went beyond the point of credibility. I think the author got caught up in trying to cover too many themes.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
narrator was fine
Do you think The Good Lord Bird needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
no. The story is over.
Any additional comments?
I am not sure after reading this book what was real and what was created for the story.

Implicated in the deaths of as many as 300 patients, he was also perhaps the most prolific serial killer in American history.
