I’m late to the Outlander party and so much has already been eloquently related by other reviewers. What I can say is, I was hooked by the very first book that I decided would be nice and long for a road trip I was taking. Good Lord, I thought I was going to run off the interstate a few times *wink wink*. The story is incredible with so many twists and turns, and rarely a dull moment. Davina Porter was already one of my favorite narrators, and she has quickly become THE favorite. She IS Claire, for me. I can’t see anyone taking her place. Already starting book 4, “Drums of Autumn”.

Very powerful and very disturbing. Carey Mulligan’s best performance to date. It just goes to show you that things are not always what you think they are.

How am I so late to the Outlander party??? I made a 1600 mile road trip and decided this book would be a good choice. And I was right! I adore Davina Porter-she has narrated some of my other books in the historical fiction genre, and is wonderful! She is superb in her narration and glides seamlessly from English to Gaelic. The storyline is exciting and has kept my attention from start to finish. The characters are multifaceted, deep, and well developed. Brava to Ms. Gabaldon and Ms. Porter. On to the next book!

Eye opener!

Well this one is probably breaking the hopes and dreams and fantasies of some men and young women around the world. I got this on a whim, and it was actually an enjoyable listen. It was definitely an eye opener. I think the biggest surprises for me was how dirty-as in filthy housekeeping-the mansion was, and what a complete douchebag Hefner was. Such an illusion. A girl from my small town USA was a centerfold in the 70s and had a bit part in Apocalypse Now. She had gone to school with my husband to be. He kept looking at the pictures saying it wasn’t her. It couldn’t be her. When I finally saw her waiting tables at her family’s restaurant shortly after her pictorial, I couldn’t believe it was the same girl either. Oh the miracles of filters and airbrushing.
Ms. Madison got caught up in the illusion and almost drowned in it. I’m glad she found her happy ending. She may be divorced by now, who knows? I’m glad she got away.

Fresh Presentation!

This was so uniquely presented and I loved it. Each wife told her story in first person. Henry gave his viewpoint on the rise and fall of each queen as well. Of course it could only hit the highlights (or lowlights, if you will), but even in a short story format, it managed to give a complete overview of their story.
I’ve read many many many books on the Tudors, and this one is presented differently from all the rest. Definitely worth a credit and a few hours of your time.

Favorite Tony Riches Book To Date

This was well written, well narrated (the narrator can make, or break, an audio book), well researched, and thoroughly enjoyable book. I’ve listened to all of the Tudor books written by Mr. Riches. All have been very good, but the narration for his book on Henry VII made it hard to listen to. Ms. Redman did an outstanding job, and did the book justice. It left me wanting more. I look forward to Mr. Riches next offering.

Tony Riches writes an excellent story and is one of my favorite authors, although he doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. This book left me wanting more. I wanted more details and more of Warwick’s story.
The narration left something to be desired. Mr. Blaxland has a very pleasing voice, but he puts no emotion in the story. It’s a monotone reading, and that was disappointing.
I still believe it’s worth a read. There’s not much out there about the Kingmaker; he’s usually a bit player in books about the Wars of the Roses, but as the wealthiest man in England, he’s much more than a bit player.

I remember when this happened. I was only 11 but I remember how horrified I was that anything like this crime was possible. We had already lived through the Kennedy assassination, and the Vietnam War raged on our TV sets every night, but there was still an innocence in our lives at the time.
I agree with others that the narrator did a terrible southern drawl, but overall she did a good job.
Didn’t quite understand all the Gacy stuff at the end. I just finished reading a book on him so I thought Audible had mistakenly started that book again. I get that the prosecutors in Gacy’s trial used the Speck case as a model, but I don’t think it added anything to the story. It could have ended after the transcript of Speck’s jailhouse interview, which I wish had been the real audio instead of just the transcript. I also didn’t see the point in bleeping out the expletives. People who read these types of books are *probably* not sensitive to foul or obscene language.
