Another Lisa S Hit
Revisado: 06-25-18
Page turner if this was a real book. Very suspenseful. There were a couple of things I thought needed a change though. SPOILER ALERT....
I understood Maggie believing Anna's claims as she wanted to protect her daughter that she had lost but I didn't understand Maggie's friend jumping on the Noah did it bandwagon. Kathy didn't point out that Anna hadn't been in their lives for 17 years and they really didn't know if she had some mental issue. Also the prison scene and Noah's quick release strains reality. All in a 24 hour period too.

In 1558 the ancient stones of Kingsbridge Cathedral look down on a city torn apart by religious conflict. As power in England shifts precariously between Catholics and Protestants, high principles clash bloodily with friendship, loyalty, and love. Ned Willard wants nothing more than to marry Margery Fitzgerald. But when the lovers find themselves on opposing sides of the religious divide sweeping across the country, Ned goes to work for Princess Elizabeth. When she becomes queen, all Europe turns against England.

Ken Does It Again
Revisado: 10-27-17
Once again Ken Follett has brought me into a medieval world filled with characters that you love or love to hate. He is such gifted story teller.
This is set in 1500 England as Mary Queen of Scots dies and Elizabeth takes the throne. Many of the characters are real so it is obvious he did a great deal of research to weave this tale.

Wonderful historical fiction for WW 2 and after
Revisado: 02-28-13
What made the experience of listening to Winter of the World the most enjoyable?
The vivid characters and their stories explain the history of the time. It makes all that occurred so understandable.
What did you like best about this story?
All the vivid characters and their believable relationships to each other.
If you could take any character from Winter of the World out to dinner, who would it be and why?
I would go to dinner with Daisy and Lloyd. I related to Daisy's youthful mistakes but loved her relationship with Lloyd and his strong character.

Historia
At 23, Ruth Saunders headed west with her 70-year-old grandma in tow, hoping to be hired as a television writer. Four years later, she's hit the jackpot when she gets The Call: the sitcom she wrote, The Next Big Thing, has gotten the green light, and Ruthie's going to be the show-runner. But her dreams of Hollywood happiness are threatened by demanding actors, number-crunching executives, an unrequited crush on a boss, and her grandmother's impending nuptials.

Clever Thing
Revisado: 08-21-12
If you could sum up The Next Best Thing in three words, what would they be?
This was well written and I fell in love with Ruthie and her grandma. The author's descriptions of the world of tv production sound very realistic and put me in the moment. I strongly recommend.

A great summer read. Light weight with obvious events but I wanted the heroine to come out on top and I liked her.

Historia
It's the early 1980s—the country is in a deep recession, and life after college is harder than ever. In the cafés on College Hill, the wised-up kids are inhaling Derrida and listening to Talking Heads. But Madeleine Hanna, dutiful English major, is writing her senior thesis on Jane Austen and George Eliot, purveyors of the marriage plot that lies at the heart of the greatest English novels.
