Great book! I love this series!
Revisado: 09-24-21
Great book! I read the series about 15 years ago or so. Loved seeing it came to an audio format. It's as good as I remember. Narrator did a good job changing voices with the different characters. I will continue picking up the other books in the series. I do remember somewhere in the middle or late middle a couple of the books get kind of weird, but it is definitely worth getting to the end of the series and the finale!

Historia
Roak has a plan. It is not a good plan. It is not an easy plan. But it is a plan. And with a crew he doesn't want, a nemesis who is always one step ahead, and the power of the Galactic Fleet about to come down on him with all its might, Roak is going to need every ounce of his experience and skill as the galaxy's greatest and deadliest bounty hunter to execute the plan. If his infinite enemies don't execute him first!

Another Excellent Roak Novel
Revisado: 07-12-19
I love the Roak novels. And this one was no exception. Entertaining, action filled, and of course the expected sarcastic humor of Roak. I always love the banter between Roak and Hessa. Hessa is one of the only characters that can't be threatened or bullied by Roak, and it's a crack up just just knowing Roak is doing everything he can to not totally lose his s@#% with her. Andrew B. Wehrlen does a fantastic job as the narrator. He has done all of the Roak books and I hope he continues doing so. He just kills the role of Roak and the other characters.

Historia
Judaea in AD 46. Roman centurions Cato and Macro have been posted to Judaea for a 'hearts and minds' operation. The Empire needs to win over the locals after some of their religious figures have started revolts - and since the Romans crucified the last charismatic Judaean leader, the natives' rebellions have become bolder. Not only are these small villages causing trouble, but there are also thousands of Parthians eager to fight Rome. With the threat of suicide attacks and even all-out war, Cato and Macro have their peace-keeping work cut out....

Historia
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Great book and performance

I like the performer, same guy from some of the Wheel of Time. Similar writing style to Sanderson. You have to have some patience because there is a lot going on and you need to let the world building take place. Great twists in the story. And the epilogue drop a huge bomb! Can't wait to get the next book!

I love the Mars series!
Revisado: 01-14-19
The Mars series was the first book series to fully captivate me and start me binge reading. I read the Mars books and then Tarzan and The Venus series by Edgar Rice Burroughs when I was around 12-14 years old (almost 40 years ago.) It kept me reading until the early hours of the morning. Now my young children are listening to these audiobooks with me and loving them. My 10 year old daughter always keeps on me to put John Carter on when we get in the car. I wish the whole series was on audible!

Historia
The Adriatic Sea, AD 45. Cato and Macro, centurions of the Roman army, are horrified to learn that they face possible execution after the death of their commanding officer. Fortunately, the Emperor's secretary is willing to offer them an alternative: to join the marines and hunt down a band of brutal pirates who are decimating not only Rome's reputation, but also a critical supply chain. As they discover the true horror of battle at sea, Macro and Cato must also remember their real mission: to recover from those pirates a set of scrolls that hold secrets vital to the future of the Roman Empire. Rome will do anything to get them back....

I always enjoy the Macro and Cato stories. I read the previous books prior to this one. So this was my first audible one. I think the narrator did a fantastic job using distinctly different voices for the different characters. Lots of action and intrigue in this story.

Historia
Alfred of Wessex has survived the Danish invasions, but though he now has an uneasy truce with his enemies, fresh Viking ships are arriving to plunder and enslave the Saxons. Those Vikings must be defeated, and Alfred's first move is to deny them their fortress on the Thames, the decayed Roman city of London. His weapon is Uhtred, a warrior of formidable reputation. But neither Alfred's wisdom, not Uhtred's prowess, might be enough to save Wessex when a Viking lord captures a prize of inestimable value.
