Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Amazing and emotional
Revisado: 09-18-24
Emotions you feel rather than simply understanding. Amazing story and characters. They have become part of me as only a great novel can.

Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation. Raised in the sun-drenched, idyllic world of Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. But in 1965, the world is changing, and she suddenly dares to imagine a different future for herself. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path.

Heartfelt, serious, psychological
Revisado: 09-04-24
Awesome book! I am a fan of classic literature from all over the world and was hesitant to read what I considered a modern “dime store” novel. That was far from the case. I believe Kristin’s personal passion for the topic, research, and writing ability made this novel real for me and so many more. I believe the only prerequisites for this novel are being human and having seen the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. Well done! (Bravo Zulu!)

Historia
Twenty-year-old Lilja is in love. As a young university student, she is quickly smitten with the intelligent, beautiful young man from school who quotes Derrida and reads Latin and cooks balanced vegetarian meals. Before she even realizes, she's moved in with him, living in his cramped apartment, surrounded by sour towels and flat Diet Cokes. As the newfound intimacy of sharing a shower and a bed fuels her desire to please her partner, his acts of nearly imperceptible abuse continue to mount undetected.

Short but moving
Revisado: 04-30-23
This book is short but intense. I was amazed at how much character development occurred in such a short span. I will look for more by Thora H.

Historia
People say Beartown is finished. A tiny community nestled deep in the forest, it is slowly losing ground to the ever encroaching trees. But down by the lake stands an old ice rink, built generations ago by the working men who founded this town. And in that ice rink is the reason people in Beartown believe tomorrow will be better than today. Their junior ice hockey team is about to compete in the national semifinals, and they actually have a shot at winning.

Great book, weak ending.
Revisado: 04-27-23
Loved the writing, story, and some of the character development; however, the ending was very dissatisfying.
