Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Breathtaking to say the least!
Revisado: 10-21-22
It had me at the edge of my seat the entire time!
Being an active Latter-day Saint myself and a flat-earther even, I have to say I was very cautious throughout the book hoping the book wasn't written in an attempt to smear the faith or smear the non-mainstream believers, but overall I think it was quite fair and most sincere.

Historia
Israel is a tiny state, and yet it has captured the world's attention, aroused its imagination, and, lately, been the object of its opprobrium. Why does such a small country speak to so many global concerns? More pressingly: Why does Israel make the decisions it does? And what lies in its future? We cannot answer these questions until we understand Israel's people and the questions and conflicts, the hopes and desires, that have animated their conversations and actions.

Great information, if you can stay awake long enough to digest it all. I fell asleep many times, but I did finish it knowing more than I did going into it.

Historia
The problem of agriculture is as old as civilization. Throughout history, great societies that abused their land withered into poverty or disappeared entirely. Now we risk repeating this ancient story on a global scale due to ongoing soil degradation, a changing climate, and a rising population. But there is reason for hope. David R. Montgomery introduces us to farmers around the world at the heart of a brewing soil health revolution that could bring humanity's ailing soil back to life remarkably fast.

Don't till, don't till, don't till and compost, compost, compost. That pretty much sums up the whole book, plus plant cover crops like legumes to help build the nitrogen in your soil.

Historia
There are 20 million acres of lawns in North America. In their current form, these unproductive expanses of grass represent a significant financial and environmental cost. However, viewed through a different lens, they can also be seen as a tremendous source of opportunity. Access to land is a major barrier for many people who want to enter the agricultural sector, and urban and suburban yards have huge potential for would-be farmers wanting to become part of this growing movement.

Historia
When he purchased four acres of land on Vashon Island, Kurt Timmermeister was only looking for an affordable home near the restaurants he ran in Seattle. But as he slowly settled into his new property, he became awakened to the connection between what he ate and where it came from: a hive of bees provided honey, a young cow could give fresh milk, an apple orchard allowed him to make vinegar.

Not a book for vegetarians
Revisado: 11-13-17
The narrator was fantastic. It was a book that kept you interested and was easy to listen to. If you are listening to this book for information on profitable vegitable farming though, you are listening to the wrong book. I wish the author was more clear in the beginning about what kind of farming he was going to talk about. The book is kind of an amusment ride, you know it is about farming, but you have no idea where the ride is going to take you. You just hope it is going to talk about some farming points you might be interested in.

With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century.

Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.

Great story, but some inappropriate content.
Revisado: 08-12-17
There is a lot of offensive language in this book,
the condoning of masturbation, and some venom for religion. Were it not for those things, this book would be an A + I would rave about rather than a guilty pleasure I am embarrassed to speak of.
The author is very talented.
