Historia
The Go-Giver tells the story of an ambitious young man named Joe who yearns for success. Joe is a true go-getter, though sometimes he feels as if the harder and faster he works, the further away his goals seem to be. Desperate to land a key sale at the end of a bad quarter, he seeks advice from the enigmatic Pindar, a legendary consultant referred to by his many devotees simply as the Chairman.

A life changing parable
Revisado: 08-10-21
The parable of The Go-Giver is one of life’s little instruction books. Most often you hear that there is no user’s manual for a life worth living. After reading The Go-Giver I beg to differ. I highly recommend this book to every entrepreneur, business person, teacher, parent, grandparent, doctor, lawyer, etc. No matter who you are, what roles you play, or what you do to earn a living this book has something for you.

Historia
There is a voice of longing inside each woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good partners, daughters, mothers, employees, and friends. We hope all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives and wonder: Wasn’t it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful, hiding our discontent—even from ourselves.

Historia
Young Hiram Walker was born into bondage. When his mother was sold away, Hiram was robbed of all memory of her - but was gifted with a mysterious power. Years later, when Hiram almost drowns in a river, that same power saves his life. This brush with death births an urgency in Hiram and a daring scheme: to escape from the only home he’s ever known. So begins an unexpected journey that takes Hiram from the corrupt grandeur of Virginia’s proud plantations to desperate guerrilla cells in the wilderness, from the coffin of the South to dangerously idealistic movements in the North.

Revisado: 08-24-19
There was a lot in this book to make me feel very uncomfortable in my own skin. That being said I think it is a vital book for anyone who chooses to live consciously to read or listen to. I recommend it for history professors who teach classes on the vietnam war. I recommend it for AP Language or Literature classes for it's use of language. I would not choose to read this book for pleasure because listening to it was not pleasurable for me. But for the content, the questions it asks, the thought it provokes I highly recommend it.

Historia
Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.

Wow!
Revisado: 07-14-19
OMG! This story touched me to my core. There is so much raw emotion, so much truth, and so much love in this story. I loved everything about this book. It's filled with passion, joy, sadness, grief, frivolous play, comfort, and love. I adore the main character because she is so unapologetically herself.

Historia
In a country teetering on the brink of civil war, two young people meet - sensual, fiercely independent Nadia and gentle, restrained Saeed. They embark on a furtive love affair, and are soon cloistered in a premature intimacy by the unrest roiling their city. When it explodes, turning familiar streets into a patchwork of checkpoints and bomb blasts, they begin to hear whispers about doors - doors that can whisk people far away, if perilously and for a price. As the violence escalates, Nadia and Saeed decide that they no longer have a choice.

i listened to twice through. Both times I was moved to tears at the end. I think that's because of the theme of loss throughout the book. All the losses we all suffer throughout a lifetime. And yet there is hope always hope! I loved it!

Historia
Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases - a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with as well as way less experience in the dating department than the average 30-year-old. It doesn't help that she has Asperger's and that French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. She decides that she needs lots of practice - with a professional - which is why she hires escort Michael Phan.

A refreshing new twist on the romance novel. The heroine is fabulous, intelligent, funny, and so loveable. The hero is sweet, kind, vulnerable and a perfect fit. Together they are unstoppable.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

A beautifully crafted story. The author really draws the reader in to a world of nature few people ever experience. Artfully weaving elements of American society into this timeless story.

Deep rich complex tale
Revisado: 12-29-18
A fantastic first novel by Ya'a Gy'asi. Haunting - Melancholic - Artful
The storytelling is full and completely believable. This novel of historical fiction both bridges and emphasizes the gulf between Africa and America. As the author says, "two branches of the same tree." I recommend this novel for those who wish to develop a deeper understanding of our history as human beings.
