Historia
It’s the summer of 1907, and the sun is scorching down on Mary Pearl in the Arizona Territory. Mary Pearl and her sister Esther take their minds off the heat by sneaking banned Jane Austen novels from Aunt Sarah Elliot’s lively bookshelf. Whispered read-alouds preoccupy their nights, and reveries of getting hitched to their own Mr. Darcy à la Pride and Prejudice swirl through their daydreams. In walks old-fashioned old-money suitor Aubrey Hanna, here to whisk 17-year-old Mary Pearl off her feet with a forbidden kiss and hasty engagement.

Needs a lesson in speaking Spanish.
Revisado: 12-12-24
I liked the reader’s voice but her pronunciation of Spanish is very grating! Agua, saguaro, ocotillo, cholla, Cochise, etc. very off putting.

Historia
It is 997 CE, the end of the Dark Ages. England is facing attacks from the Welsh in the west and the Vikings in the east. Those in power bend justice according to their will, regardless of ordinary people and often in conflict with the king. Without a clear rule of law, chaos reigns. In these turbulent times, three characters find their lives intertwined.

Fun to hear the backstory to Pillars of the Earth. I felt reading it last was interesting to see the thoughts behind the building of a cathedral.

Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Harry Potter grabs you from the first
Revisado: 07-27-23
I read the Harry Potter books when they first came out and liked them a lot. When given a chance to listen to the first book, I decided to try it again, and it was just as good the second time as the first. When a book appeals to both kids and adults you know it’s well written. I’m 81.

Historia
By 1930, no place in the world was less well explored than Greenland. The native Inuit had occupied the relatively accessible west coast for centuries. The east coast, however, was another story. In August 1930, Henry George Watkins (nicknamed “Gino”), a twenty-three-year-old British explorer, led thirteen scientists and explorers on an ambitious expedition to the east coast of Greenland and into its vast and forbidding interior to set up a permanent meteorological base on the icecap, 8,200 feet above sea level.

Fascinating Biography
Revisado: 06-16-23
This book about 1930s Arctic explorer Gino Watkins, was very well written and read. It kept me interested throughout, even though it would be the last thing I’d ever want to do.

Historia
It begins on the shaded town square in a sleepy Southern town. A spirited seven-year-old has a brisk business at her lemonade stand. But the little girl’s pretty yellow dress can’t quite hide the ugly scar on her chest. Her latest customer, a bearded stranger, drains his cup and heads to his car, his mind on a boat he's restoring at a nearby lake. The stranger understands more about the scar than he wants to admit. And the beat-up bread truck careening around the corner with its radio blaring is about to change the trajectory of both their lives.

Heart Info Interesting
Revisado: 06-02-23
To me this book was interesting but a little too sappy and Rease a little too good to be true. I did enjoy reading about heart transplants. And, yes, the ending was confusing. Had trouble deciding whether to give the book three or four stars but the narration was excellent.

Abu Nakba―the man responsible for lethal attacks in Washington, D.C., London, and Jerusalem―is finally dead. Marcus Ryker has been tasked with hunting down and destroying what’s left of the terror group Kairos. But before Ryker can mobilize his team of CIA operatives with their new assignment, a disturbing report from Libya suggests all may not be as it seems. The U.S. bombing that should have taken out Nakba’s headquarters now appears to have been a disastrous mistake―and Ryker himself may be responsible.

Great story, wrong narrator
Revisado: 05-26-23
The story itself was compelling and exciting, but the narrator sounded like he was an old man, and was hard to understand. He didn’t match the character Reiker (sp?) at all! What were you thinking?!

Reading this very interesting book certainly increased my awareness of this chronic fatigue disease. It made me realize how important it is not to make judgments before knowing the facts, and to listen to advocates for causes such as this. Well written.

Interesting story and the reader was good except for that fake accent and trying to sound like a woman. Just read it straight and it would be more believable. I wouldn’t say anything except that otherwise he was excellent.

This is an important historical novel to read as the history of these home children is basically unknown. Not to mention the story itself is very well written and interesting.
