Historia
Merida of DunBroch needs a change. She loves her family—jovial King Fergus, proper Queen Elinor, the mischievous triplets—and her peaceful kingdom. But she's frustrated by its sluggishness; each day, the same. Merida longs for adventure, purpose, challenge—maybe even, someday, love.

Charming story, b the last third felt a bit rushed
Revisado: 03-07-24
As a fan of the film I was excited to pick up the book, and I wasn't disappointed. It's a fine story with compelling new characters as well as expanding the characters we already know from the film. I quite enjoyed the story, but there seems to be a bit of a change in the later third of the book where things seem to feel a bit rushed and a relationship resolution feels a bit unearned, possibly because of that. Still a fine story that kept me well engaged, I'm interested in more from the author.

I loved the book, but the narration...
Revisado: 05-15-23
Another fun book from Maria V. Snyder. I've loved the Study series since it's premiere and have followed every release and was happy to have this unique look back on the first book. My only complaint is the narrator, it took a while to get used to him and I feel like the voices used for the characters weren't unique enough.

Splat. That’s the sound Hali Waverly made when she hit the pavement after a drunken billionaire ran her over with his golf cart. Cha-ching. That’s the sound her bank account made when his handlers got him under control and swooped in to buy Hali off. The offer? Ownership of a tiki bar on the property of a busy resort and lodging in one of the villas on St. Pete Beach. When private investigator Grayson “Gray” Hunter shows up asking questions about a missing woman, Gray and Hali lock horns.

Cute but uninspired
Revisado: 04-28-22
The story was fine, but spends more time world building than dealing with the actual story it's trying to tell. Feels very much like a first arc of a 90s WB supernatural show. I don't think I'll be continuing on, but I wouldn't begrudge those who enjoy this kind of thing.

Very average and predictable, but still enjoyable
Revisado: 12-04-12
I picked this up on a recommendation of a family member, and while I lied to them about my feelings on it, I won't lie to you. The narrator does a good job of giving voice to this easy detective novel following a murder of employees of a research facility, but it telegraphs its solution pretty early on if you're used to this genre, and the only thing left was the details of the how, as why and who are given up pretty early on. Still though, the how was interesting enough to keep me engaged, and this wouldn't be a terrible companion on a long drive, but there may be others more worthy.

Historia
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

An interesting trip
Revisado: 12-04-12
The story got me hooked pretty early on, and the switching between the two voices of both the actual performers as well as each chapter's character view point was great. The switching of view points between the two characters lent well to the mystery as you try to make up your mind who the unreliable narrator is, and every twist in the path brings new thrills. Totally worth a listen!

Historia
Meet Anita Thompson: she's young, she's lovely, she's clever, and she's a witch. A real one. Anita lives in two worlds: the modern world of supermarkets and sports cars, radio and rock-and-roll, where she is a thoroughly modern girl with a thoroughly modern interest in boys and fast living and her own independence. But she also lives in the ancient and rustic world of traditions, cauldrons, and familiars.

Fun, but in pieces.
Revisado: 12-04-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
This was a fun little thing I could turn to again and again over the year that I've had it. Each chapter functions more as a short story than a continuing narrative, so it was awesome to have this along in my collection every time I finished another story just shy of reaching my destination while driving.
The performance of Nicola Barber was great, with distinctive voices for the characters, she lent a pleasant tone to the great short shots that I took in.
