BIG fan of the Templeverse series, this one for whatever reason fell a bit flat and seemed as if it was just filler.....looking forward to the story line back on track!

Missed the mark

I am a HUGE fan of all of Kadrey's work up until this one! Normally I can't put one of his books down, but had a really hard time finding the want to finish this one. The whole German-esque theme was a bit over the top for me personally. Not a bad book by any means but didn't do it for me.

Wanted to love it but ........meh

Let me start off by saying that Shayne's Nate Temple series is one of my favorites of all time! This is an expansion on that same universe, so....... I had big hopes! It unfortunately fell far short.

The narration was terrible! I have to agree with a previous review that Callie sounds like a winy teenager most of the time (not solely the narrators fault). Also the recording quality was horrendous!! I could here car alarms, sirens, etc in the background. Sounded like it was recorded in a bedroom on a busy street! I strongly recommend a new voice for Cali!

Secondly, this is just my preference. The internal monologue was very difficult to listen to. Again, sounded like an angsty teen rather that a B.A. woman in her mid twenties. IF the writing of the next book is more inline with how she is portrayed in the Temple series, I'll give it a go.

SO much potential..........just hope it can be turned around!!

Disappointing!!!

Huge fan of Hearne's other works! Really missed the mark with this one. I tried several times to give this a chance but just couldn't do it. If you are expecting classic Hearne, save your credit and move on.

Where does The Kill Society rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The Sandman Slim series is number 1 on my list! After a couple of weak showings we have good old Stark back again!

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the fact he wasn't someone else's lackey anymore!

What does MacLeod Andrews bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

MacLeod is as good as it gets. Always a pleasure to listen to one of his narrations.

Very excited to what happens next.......Sandman Slim with The Room of 13 Doors again!!!!!!!!

What disappointed you about Trailer Park Fae?

The books is filled with soooo much minutia!!! It makes it very taxing to listen to. I am a big fan of this genre and thought it would be in my wheel house, but it was too much. I couldn't even finish the book and I've only had that happen a very few times. Way..way...way too many adjectives use for everything. "She nipped down the alley and pressed her flesh against the weeping bricks". What the hell is that? Half of his book is unneeded descriptive detail and if it where cut out it might a good book at that point. I guess we'll never know.

I would, Sandman Slim is one of my favorite series' of books out.

What about MacLeod Andrews’s performance did you like?

In my humble opinion, I feel MacLeod Andrews is one of the best narrators in the game! Never disappoints and has an ability to make a good story great.

Any additional comments?

I have been waiting for this book from the minute I finished The Getaway God!! I truly enjoy Kadrey's writing and MacLeod's narration. That aside, I know this a new story arc but it falls a little short of the mark to me. Stark is kind of a little bitch in the book, taking orders like a subservient dog. I know we all have to grow up at some point but Sandman Slim needs his edge back!!! He is not only a problem solver but a bad ass and he needs that back!!! He was the Devil for Christ's sake, you don't get that job by being a pussy. Never the less I am look forward to the next one and very glad Kadrey kept the story going!!!!

Nailed it again!

Would you listen to Evolution (The Divine Book 5) again? Why?

I truly enjoy this series! Every book has been every entertaining and Evolution is no different. I always find myself wanting the books to be longer for my own selfish reasons!!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I would have to say Landon! He's this guy with god like powers yet he is like us. He struggles to always do the right thing and to be human when he is so much more than human. He is a noble guy, but I think I would have kept a little more "juice" for myself!

I've enjoyed the series so far, but this one is incomplete and the manner is with the story is told just puts me to sleep. Save your credit.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Nope, story was fine but wouldn't subject anyone else to the narration.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I could not stand the narration!!!! The characters were fine, but when it came to straight narration, it was hardly tolerable. I have had to walk away from this book several times. It’s the tempo and voice inflection in which the narrator reads, each sentence is read in a teeth grinding tempo and her voice rises at the end of each sentence. Felt like listening to a bad poem! I will never listen to a book read by this narrator again!!!!!!!!!!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was not, took up time while waiting for the new MHI.
