Historia
Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36. They were married when Clare was 23 and Henry was 31. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.

In 1942, the Gestapo sent out an urgent transmission: "She is the most dangerous of all Allied spies. We must find and destroy her." The target in their sights was Virginia Hall, a Baltimore socialite who talked her way into Special Operations Executive, the spy organization dubbed Winston Churchill's "Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." She became the first Allied woman deployed behind enemy lines and - despite her prosthetic leg - helped to light the flame of the French Resistance, revolutionizing secret warfare as we know it.

I found it difficult to put down! I had a female family member who worked with OSS. She never forgot anyone she had ever met. She could tell you names, occupations, family members, etc. I thought of her while reading this! What an adventure!

Historia
Reporter Sam Kean reveals the periodic table as it’s never been seen before. Not only is it one of man's crowning scientific achievements, it's also a treasure trove of stories of passion, adventure, betrayal, and obsession. The infectious tales and astounding details in The Disappearing Spoon follow carbon, neon, silicon, and gold as they play out their parts in human history, finance, mythology, war, the arts, poison, and the lives of the (frequently) mad scientists who discovered them.

All the “news” that is news about the Periodic Table! If I had read this book in school, chemistry and science would’ve been even more interesting. I’m a science & mathematics geek BUT I that anyone would love it! I’ll be listening to it again!

When Elon Musk was a kid in South Africa, he was regularly beaten by bullies. One day a group pushed him down some concrete steps and kicked him until his face was a swollen ball of flesh. He was in the hospital for a week. But the physical scars were minor compared to the emotional ones inflicted by his father, an engineer, rogue, and charismatic fantasist.

The Evolution of Elon
Revisado: 12-09-24
I liked that the author treats his subject much like a historian. It allows you to develop a little insight into how Elon became ELON. Now I better understand the impetuousness & his fearlessness. Like the rest of us, he is the product of his upbringing (bad & good). I’ve always admired his genius but now I understand his maniacal focus better. We could use more DOERS like Elon in this world full of people who just sitting around discussing “possibilities”. A great read!

Pretty solid but….
Revisado: 02-09-23
The LBGT stuff was not significant, but almost seemed like it was thrown in after the fact to be more “current”. The physical feats of the heroine when fighting a well developed male bruise just defy MY imagination...again, it seems like the character was written as a male but changed genders after the fact to make the entire book feel more current. Perhaps making her mentally unstable was supposed to make her physicality and brutality more believable. I first thought this was the writer’s error but, after putting my feeling in writing…it sounds like something an editor might have pushed. I liked the book but found myself listening with a bit of “incredulity.”

I wanted to give 5 Stars…but
Revisado: 01-25-23
I love the story. Vocals well done as well as the instrumentation. And then. the best narrator in the world (Not just my opinion). For me, the audio needs a RE-MIX. Narrator voice level needs to be brought up ABOVE the instrumentation. I found the music (which I normally adore) irritating when the narrator was setting the scene. I’m an audiophile…so perhaps this bothered me more than it would others. I know I would enjoy the podcast if it were mixed for headphones. Perhaps I should try listening thru another sound system. A terrific concept tho.
