Excellent Christmas Listen!
Revisado: 12-17-18
I was searching for a Christmas mystery when I came across this book. This title has is number 17 out of 17 in the Molly Murphy mysteries, but the first one I have listened to! I really enjoyed listening to this book because you get a clever mystery that takes place around Christmas, and you also get some history as well. I enjoyed hearing how Christmas was long ago in America, and a little about women and the suffrage movement at that time.
I really liked the narrator, especially the fact she didn’t overdo the foreign accents, often narrators make them annoying and loud, and this narrator didn’t. The toddler’s voice was a bit annoying, but I was thankful he didn’t have much of a vocabulary!
I was worried that since this was the last book in a series of 17 titles, I would miss information from earlier titles in the series and miss something. I was very happy that I was able to listen to the entire book and it was like listening to an independent novel. You can listen to this title alone, or as part of the series without feeling lost!
I would definitely recommend this book. I actually enjoyed it so much I am going from the last title in the series to the first and listen to the entire series in order this time. I hope you enjoy this Christmas mystery with Molly as much as I did!

Wasn't my type of book
Revisado: 02-12-17
This book seemed somewhat interesting so I purchased it when it came up as a daily deal, but it wasn't really for me. It was like Sherlock Holmes meets the bizarre supernatural.
The narrator was good when she was doing the female voices, but I couldn't get into the main character, who was male, because the voice didn't seem very realistic.
I know there are a lot of fans for this type of book, so if this is something you would like, don't let my review deter you. The book just wasn't something I personally enjoy.

Historia
For four years, from the election of John Fitzgerald Kennedy until after the election of Lyndon Johnson, Clint Hill was the Secret Service agent assigned to guard the glamorous and private Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy. During those four years, he went from being a reluctant guardian to a fiercely loyal watchdog and friend. Looking back, Clint Hill tells his story for the first time, offering a tender and tragic portrayal of how a Secret Service agent who started life in an orphanage became the most trusted man in the life of the First Lady who captivated first the nation and then the world.

Very interesting look at history...
Revisado: 02-11-17
This was a good listen. I really enjoyed learning more about the First Lady and family from an insider. I do think it's obvious that Mr. Hill was in love with Jackie, and I think it will be obvious to anyone who listens! From that aspect, I'm not sure that Mr. Hill is completely unbiased with his accounts, but still a great story.

Many changes have happened to the Murder Squad. Rash actions have cost Sergeant Nevil Hammersmith his job, and in response he has set up his own private detective agency. Inspector Walter Day has been missing for a year, and no one knows where he is - though there is a strong suspicion that Saucy Jack has him. Hammersmith has made finding Day his primary case, and he has company - a pair of bounty hunters, a man and a woman.

Revisado: 12-30-16
I do prefer the narrator from the first 2 books in the series, but the books are great either way. The stories are great and hook you in so you don't want to stop listening! Highly recommend and can't wait for the next book in the series!

Scotland Yard’s Murder Squad - and Jack the Ripper - return, in the extraordinary new historical thriller from the author of the acclaimed national best seller The Yard. In The Devil’s Workshop, London discovered that Jack the Ripper was back, sending the city - and Scotland Yard’s Murder Squad - into chaos. But now it is even worse. Not only is the Ripper still at large, but so is another killer just as bad. For Inspector Walter Day, it has been a difficult time.

Great Series, with a few minor annoyances.
Revisado: 12-27-16
I do love this series, but I definitely preferred the narrator of the first 2 books in the series. This narrator makes the main character sound a lot less confident than in the first 2 books.
A lot of the characters now sound the same and I never can tell what type of accent they are supposed to have. The Ripper, the coroner's assistant, Day's wife, the ripper, and a couple others on occasion have a sing song quality that can be annoying. The book actually mentions the ripper having a sing song quality to his voice.
This particular book in the series had 3 serial killers at once, so you have to pay close attention if you don't want to get everyone confused. Besides liking the narrator better in the first 2 books, I also liked those books best. They had a great story line and were less complicated. I do like all of the books, but I couldn't stop listening to the first 2 once I started them.
I hate to be knit picky, but I am hoping that if there is a 6th book in the series, perhaps the first narrator will come back and things will be more like the first 2 books if my and other opinions are taken into consideration. But, overall, great books!!

I want narrator Toby Leonard Moore back!
Revisado: 12-18-16
Toby Leonard Moore was a much better narrator for this series. I don't know why they changed narrators after the first 2 books. In my opinion, John Curless ruined a lot of the characters for me. Claire Day became so whiney in this book, I couldn't stand to listen to her. And Inspector Day lost the authority in his voice. I thought he sounded somewhat weak and scared in most of the book, even when he had no reason to. The Inspector Day of the first two books in the series, always sounded authoritative, professional, and confident. If there are more books to come, please go back to the original narrator! I still liked the story line a great deal, but as audio book lovers know, a narrator can make the book much better or worse, so in my opinion, this book wasn't as good as the first two, but as stated, it was still a very imaginative and thrilling story line.

Created after the Metropolitan Police’s spectacular failure to capture Jack the Ripper, The Murder Squad suffers rampant public contempt. They have failed their citizens. When Walter Day, the squad’s newest hire, is assigned the case of the murdered detective, he finds a strange ally in the Yard’s first forensic pathologist, Dr. Bernard Kingsley.

Perfect listen!
Revisado: 09-14-16
I've been so disappointed by most of the books I've read and listened to in recent months, but this book has rejuvenated my love of books! With a lot of truth mixed with some fiction, this book transformed me into the lives of the women in the story. One of the best books I've ever listened to! No complaints! I will surely listen to it again in the future. Highly recommend! Thanks to the author!

Historia
As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret.

Great book....
Revisado: 09-03-16
This was a great book and I loved the narrator. It was slow in places, and for a book that is 20.5 hours long, there were a lot of serious topics brought up that I though would be better resolved than in the last hour summary. But overall, a great book that I would recommend.

Historia
This work presents the first in-depth look at how this "girl next door" became one of Manson's "girls". It also tells about Karlene Faith's 30-year friendship with Leslie van Houten, whom she met while teaching in prison. To everyone who encountered Leslie - including prison staff and television journalists - she was not the demon typically portrayed by the media but rather a gentle, generous spirit who mourned her victims. But why didn't this intelligent young woman see the evil in the "messiah" who had sexually exploited her and ordered her to murder?

Disappointed
Revisado: 08-29-16
I was expecting so much from this book, but gained little. It's obvious the author is a friend and fan of Leslie, so I thought there would be more insight. Instead, you will hear every detail of every parol hearing, repetitive excerpts of letters, a recap of the crimes, trials, and a little bit about how she spends her time in prison etc.. This came across as more a book about how unfair the justice system is to certain individuals than a book about Leslie herself.
