Historia
Trace the growth of communism from Stalin’s consolidation of power to the establishment of communist regimes in Eastern Europe, China, Korea, Vietnam, and elsewhere in Communism in Power: From Stalin to Mao. These 12 half-hour lessons shed intriguing light on a revolutionary movement that played an outsized role in the 20th century and continues to shape 21st-century geopolitics.

Good but would have liked more depth
Revisado: 10-18-21
Though bleak, I certainly enjoyed this romp through some of the bleakest but enlightening chapters of human history. I would have enjoyed more depth however on many of the countries presented and how they interpreted communism. North Korea for instance only received one chapter, when there is probably more to be said. Cuba for instance wasn't even covered. That being said, I certainly enjoyed this course and will eagerly await the next course in this series.

Historia
What do you really know about the fight against slavery in America? We’re all familiar with the Underground Railroad and the Emancipation Proclamation, but the fight against slavery was not some sudden movement that sprang up in the middle of the 19th century. Resistance from the enslaved started on the western coast of Africa in the 15th century and continued as the institution of slavery was codified in America, culminating with the War between the States.

Sad but historical
Revisado: 10-10-21
Tragic, sad, and eye opening, this course does a great job detailing how engrained slavery was to our current world and most of all the United States. It is historical, it is factual and hard hitting. I highly recommend this course for all of those who want to broaden their horizons and get an unvarnished view of American history.

Historia
As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

So good
Revisado: 06-19-19
I started listening to this Audiobook on a whim and boy am I glad I did. And once I started I couldn't stop listening. This is truly an audio drama, hearkening back to many of the audio dramas created for radio in the golden age of the early 20th Century and utterly mesmerizing. The production values, the dialogue, the characterization etc are all top notch and they instantly draw you into the story and the environment. However, if I had to pick one thing that sets this audiobook apart it has to be the sound direction. The environments in this drama much like the characters themselves are simply alive, you hear every creak, every skitter, every boom, every groan, the whoosh of every door etc. It is simply phenomenal and utterly engrossing. In short, I would recommend this book on the sound direction alone as it perfectly encapsulates the claustrophobic nature of the various environments/settings within the story really immersing the listener. You truly feel like you are on the Deep Space Mininig Orbiter Marion, or the planet LV-178, thats how well done the sound direction is on this drama, creating a claustrophobic thriller that I just loved. Likewise, The dialogue and the voice acting are on point, and I really believed the voice actor playing Ripley was Sigourney Weaver herself which says a lot. Overall, I can't say enough about this audio drama and I can't recommend it enough. I will be listening to the other books in this series shortly.

Historia
Edward Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire painted a portrait of the Roman Empire in a long, debilitating slide to oblivion, but now historians have reevaluated this picture to create a radically different understanding of the period now known as "late antiquity." Far from being a period of decline and fall, late antiquity marked one of history's great turning points.

Learned a lot
Revisado: 02-07-19
The Author did wonders dispelling my preconceived notions of this era and forced me to rethink what I thought I knew about the beginning of the so called dark ages. Even better, this course opened up new areas of interest for me, including early church history, Byzantium and of the early middle ages. The presenter obviously has a passion for this period of history as it shows in his presentation style and grasp of the material. Now, normally there are one or two chapters in these series where I have to sludge through but every chapter in this course was gripping and very interesting. The author showcased both the randomness and the beauty of history in an amazing manner. I cannot recommend this course highly enough.
