Bad novel masquerading as a self - help book.
Revisado: 12-09-24
Liked- nothing, nada, zero, zilch
Disliked - everything
It’s a bad novel centering around an entrepreneure with issues (trigger warning suicidal ideation), an artist unable to reach his greatness (complete with dreads, a soul patch and tatts), a billionaire guru who pretends to be homeless (and is in great physical shape) and a teacher called the spellbinder everyone loves.
It’s just masquerading as a self help book.
Everyone who follows the method is filthy rich, is in great physical shape with a tan and 6-pack abs.
The method?
There isn’t one. Get up early and do shit. Don’t look at your phones so much.
A bunch of quotes from historical figures and just crap dialogue complete with a budding romance between the entrepreneur and the artist.
Even with audible set at 1.7X speed it was torture.

Kept me holding on for the next chapter
Revisado: 09-05-24
The story was unique and entertaining. I never would’ve guessed the end. The voices used to play the different characters were very good.
The development of the characters over time is what got me most. Some were not who you thought they were.

Historia
Vain and charismatic Walter Sickert made a name for himself as a painter in Victorian London. But the ghoulish nature of his art - as well as extensive evidence - points to another name, one that's left its bloody mark on the pages of history: Jack the Ripper. Cornwell has collected never-before-seen archival material - including a rare mortuary photo, personal correspondence and a will with a mysterious autopsy clause - and applied cutting-edge forensic science to open an old crime to new scrutiny.

Could have been done in half the time
Revisado: 08-26-24
Even at 1.4X it droned on with so much repetition of the same facts. I am sorry the ‘Ripperologists’ gave Ms. Cromwell such a difficult time. Frankly, she makes a compelling argument but it’s like listening to the prosecutor and detectives in a serial murder trial without cross examination and defense.

Entertaining
Revisado: 06-14-24
It is entertaining like a TV series that is part dramatic but more comedy. The voices of the readers are perfect.
This is a quick escape and not high literature. It’s just fun.

It made me rethink so much about health
Revisado: 07-07-23
The thought and work put into this book is mind boggling. I suppose it is the amazing product Dr. Attila’s passion, intelligence and attention to details.
I am a biochemist and this made me rethink my path forward based on my ‘normal’ but maybe a little elevated bloodwork. I feel empowered to self advocate with my doctors.
BTW- I listen to most books at a fast pace. I did this one at 1X so I could soak it in. I will be re-listening to parts to make sure I truly understand it.
Thank Dr. Attia.

Today I am fortunate to have Dr. Sutton. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Anatomy, and Health and Wellness in Texas State University and Parker University . She received her Doctorate of Chiropractic from Parker University. Her serious personal health issues, such as being diagnosed with Crohn's disease at the age of 16, drove her to pursue a career in health care. Her passions include supporting her patients in avoiding health problems and becoming as healthy and pain-free as possible without the use of medications or surgery. She is more interested with identifying and ...

Mixed Feelings
Revisado: 06-17-23
Hemochromatosis is a serious concern. My issue is they spent so much time with negative comments about traditional medical doctors, pharmaceutical companies, etc. I am so wary of anyone who puts entire groups into predefined buckets. There are good and bad functional doctors and good and bad traditional medicine doctors.
If they just discussed the disease and her studies it would have been more informative.

Good story, very good performance
Revisado: 05-08-23
I am a big fan of Tunde. She has overcome adversity due to racism and fat shaming (when she was younger). She had an amazing support system in her family and friends.
She had great opportunities she did not shy from. Bravery is paramount in her success.
While a good story, it is a ‘listen in the background’ kind of story.
I’m glad I listened to it, but I cannot give it 5 stars as it not an outstanding book.

Historia
For more than a century, some of the world’s most important thinkers and leaders—men like Arthur Conan Doyle and William Butler Yeats—gathered once a month and discussed the supernatural at The Ghost Club in London. In the early 1900s the club's chairman was Harry Price, the world’s most well-known ghost hunter. He and other members, like Harry Houdini, sought to debunk the charlatans who preyed on vulnerable people with fake seances, tarot readings, and spiritual encounters.

Historical story of spiritualists and their stories
Revisado: 03-24-23
I will start by saying I am a fan of Kate Winkler Dawson’s podcasts, 10fold and Buried Bones. Well written and spoken and, more importantly (for me) well researched.
Skeptics and believers. Charlatans and actual mediums. Stories that can’t be believed and those that can.
I thoroughly enjoyed it.

There are three parts to his story and the emotional tone of them shines through
Revisado: 10-19-19
I started off thinking this wouldn’t be a 5 star review. There’s his childhood /early carrier, rise to fame and sobriety. The middle regales of stories of famous people and alcohol/drug use, was the part that i thought (at the time) was kind of repetitive and without feeling. Then, after sobriety and his live with David and their boys I realized being an addict probably numbed how he felt at those moments. I may need to listen again now having the benefit of knowing that part is bookended by introspection and experiencing life.
I loved The narration as well.

Chris Bohjalian always delivers
Revisado: 09-16-17
His novels are diverse in subject with unpredictable storylines. Always riveting. While part about the British POW seems implausible it was still a beautiful story.
I wasn't fond of the accents used to differentiate the characters, but that's the only negative I can report.
