Historia
When Misty was six years old, her family started to live and dress like the Amish. Misty and her sister were kept as slaves on a mountain ranch where they were subjected to almost complete isolation, sexual abuse, and extreme physical violence. When Misty reached her teens, her parents feared she and her sister would escape and took them to an Amish community where they were adopted and became baptized members. Misty was devastated to once again find herself in a world of fear, animal cruelty, and sexual abuse.

Historia
In his critically acclaimed Armageddon, Hastings detailed the last twelve months of the struggle for Germany. Here, in what can be considered a companion volume, he covers the horrific story of the war against Japan. By the summer of 1944 it was clear that Japan’s defeat was inevitable, but how the drive to victory would be achieved remained to be seen. The ensuing drama–that ended in Japan’s utter devastation–was acted out across the vast stage of Asia.

Good stuff Max
Revisado: 01-17-24
Really appreciate the broad and encompassing approach taken in Retribution. Hastings has included many aspects of the war that rarely see print in the west; Russian military involvement in the far east, the impact on civilian populations under Japanese rule, etc....
I don't entirely agree with many of Hastings assertions and, to be frank, find himat times unable to step outside his own cultural assumptions; however, that being said, Retribution is a fantastic read for anyone interested in the extraordinary events of and surrounding World War II. He exposes the humanity of many military and political leaders; their successes and short-comings, their fears and apprehensions. Finally; he informs a modern world about the perils of cultural hubris, the confusion caused by technological limitations, and ignorance of perceived superiority

Historia
Roger Stringer grew up in rural Mississippi, hunting and eating everything from deer to rabbits. When he had two sons, Zac and Justin, he gave them guns and took them to the woods as well. Then one day when the boys were home alone, he got a call from Zac that Justin had been shot. What follows is an intimate and gripping memoir about the shooting’s aftermath. The story moves between the perspectives of Roger and Zac as they take us through their journey of betrayal, redemption, and ultimately confrontation with a company that had kept its corruption a secret for decades.

another exceptional book from Fitzsimons
Revisado: 02-15-23
Kokoda is a truly remarkable history of the events in New Guinea during World War II.
Fitzsimons, as is his way, relates the personal stories of many involved, He so masterfully tells of their sacrifices and courage; the tremendous bonds forged during a battle where they faced brutal elements, a fierce and extraordinarily courageous enemy,
and where their very humanity was challenged.
These were incredibly brave men, both the diggers and the porters; many of whom sacrificed everything for those they fought with, and for the integrity of their nation.
Fitzsimons does them justice.

Historia
It was the afternoon of 18 August 1966, hot, humid with grey monsoonal skies. D Company, 6RAR were four kilometres east of their Nui Dat base, on patrol in a rubber plantation not far from the abandoned village of Long Tan. A day after their base had suffered a mortar strike, they were looking for Viet Cong soldiers. Then—just when they were least expecting—they found them. Under withering fire, some Diggers perished, some were grievously wounded, the rest fought on, as they remained under sustained attack. For hours these men fought for their lives against the enemy onslaught.
