Historia
The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning “1619 Project” issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. This new book substantially expands on that work, weaving together 18 essays that explore the legacy of slavery in present-day America with 36 poems and works of fiction that illuminate key moments of oppression, struggle, and resistance.

So good had to listen twice
Revisado: 08-03-24
I’m saddened about how much I did not know about my own history. I knew America was whitewashed and knew systemic racism is real I just wasn’t able to lay it out so succinctly. Thank you and please continue to educate the masses!

Historia
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

I visited India
Revisado: 04-02-24
This was a true work of art! When you can see and picture yourself in the locations depicted and learn so much about a culture….i really loved this story and was sad when people died. Big Amici was my favorite and missed her baby Mal. I was angry at Elsie and Philopos at different times and wished they had found their way back to each other. Digsby I felt sorry for initially and admire him in some ways, but man what’s up with him being a Jody? I guess what I’m saying is though this wasn’t a real story, it portrayed the nuances of real life! Love it!

Historia
Iraya, her revenge taken and magic unfettered, turns her sights on a bigger goal: freeing Aiyca for the Obeah. But first she must shed the guise of the rogue warrior and become the Lost Empress her people need. Jazmyne’s mother has been overthrown, but her people aren’t ready to call her doyenne. She’s no stranger to a fight, though, and she’s prepared to go to extreme lengths—and court ruthless danger—to secure her title.

Kind of slow, but love the story

I definitely think this book ended the way it should have! I found myself getting anxious with some of the story hurrying to reveal the plot. I guessed who the imposter was since the first novel though! I STAN Empress Adair!
