Not the usual Orphan X

I'm a big fan of Gregg Hurwitz and Evan Smoak. Having said that, I found myself unsure through most of this book. While I wouldn't necessarily want this type of story every book, I found myself surprisingly happy and satisfied at the end. I'm excited to see what comes next.

The Best Active Author/Narrator Duo

IMHO, these 2 are the best doing it today. There's some other greats for sure, but today, this is Michael and Scottie.
Additionally, I thoroughly appreciate Mr. Carr's Prologues and Epilogues. Seems like a uniquely special person. I think we're lucky have him. Wouldn't surprise me if he's needed back in the service of his country at some point. Clearly demonstrates the type of leadership, intelligence (both academic and emotional), and thoughtfulness this country is absolutely starving for. 🙏

Great story, one note narration

I always enjoy a book authored by Don Winslow. Always. This is no different. Frankly (yep), I'm a bit disappointed he hasn't revisited this character.
The narration good enough that you don't have to turn it off and get the "visual version", but it is sort of one-note. I like DB more on other books I've listened to and as an actor than on this particular performance.

Love me some Hunter and Swagger! Really enjoy Eric G. Dove as well.
Refreshing satirical commentary on the current state of things. Laughed out loud at times. I hope to have more of Hunter's Swagger soon!

ENOUGH about COVID and masks!! I don’t need to read or hear, let alone know, every time Ballard puts her mask on and takes it off! Ugh. I love every book Michael Connelly has written but the last too have been way too overt pushing a specific political agenda. Absolutely need more Bosch. Love Mr. Welliver’s work. Not crazy about Ms. Lakin.
Please please get back to the stuff that makes you and your characters great Mr. Connelly. Great whodunnit and complex internal struggles and development of characters.

Absolutely INCREDIBLE!

Is there a better thriller author right now? Is there a better narrator? I don't think so.
And this is just the 4th book!
A friend told me he only reads non-fiction. He doesn't like made up stories. I said there's probably more truth in some of the fiction I read than there is in the "non-fiction" you read. There's no better example of this being the case than The Devil's Hand.
Keep writing 'em Jack, I'll keep reading 'em! Keep narrating 'em Ray, I'll keep listening to 'em!
