Historia
The ice is coming. It was the last thing we expected, but the world is freezing. A new ice age has dawned. Billions have fled the glaciers. A cataclysmic war is coming. In orbit, a group of scientists are running the Winter Experiments, a last-ditch attempt to understand why the planet is cooling. None of the climate models they build make sense. But then they discover an anomaly, an unexplained variation in solar radiation...and something else. Close to the burning edge of the sun, they catch a fleeting glimpse of something that shouldn’t be there....

A lot of missed potential
Revisado: 02-19-25
This book went a few different directions to what I expected, which certainly isn't inherently bad, but I just feel that there were so many ways this story could've been written that would've been far more interesting than this. There was just a lot of buildup, and nothing was surprising. A lot of unnecessary secrecy building up to disappointing reveals. And unless I missed it, no mention of a Dyson sphere? Odd.
This book started out scratching the same itch as Project Hail Mary, which got me exited. But the plot was nowhere near as interesting, and a lot of the potentially cool parts were just glazed over. And frustratingly naive characters at times.

Book 1 great, book 2 bad
Revisado: 09-25-24
Book 1 was really good, but book 2 makes no sense to me. Almost everyone behaves as if this alien invasion has been going on for several years. But this is like.. day 5.
If it just said "two years later" at the start, this book would make a lot more sense.

Historia
This near-future trilogy is the first chance for English-speaking listeners to experience this multiple-award-winning phenomenon from Cixin Liu, China's most beloved science fiction author. In The Dark Forest, Earth is reeling from the revelation of a coming alien invasion - in just four centuries' time. The aliens' human collaborators may have been defeated, but the presence of the sophons, the subatomic particles that allow Trisolaris instant access to all human information, means that Earth's defense plans are totally exposed to the enemy.

Chapters?!
Revisado: 04-09-24
Why on earth (or trisolari) would you make chapters 7 hours long? I alternate between reading and listening, so I know the book doesn't have chapters, but surely there was a better way to solve this for the audio book? Navigating in a single 7-hour chapter with your thumb on the tiny scrubber to find your place in the book is literally not possible. Or when I listen while using sleep timer when going to sleep.
I would've loved arbitrary audio-chapters after certain segments, just name them "page 1-30", "31-60" or whatever, or even better; make splits at natural places as close to 20 minutes as possible.
This was soo much work. Granted, I made it harder for myself by alternating between audio and physical, but holy moly, surely this must've annoyed other people as well..

Historia
I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep. My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me.

Great book
Revisado: 10-11-20
A great story with several cool magic systems.
The reading/performance is mostly fine, but when he gives a character a dialect it sometimes gets impossible to understand. And whenever there's a song; he starts whispering so quietly it can't be heard.
