I have a great deal of respect for Tom's ability to analyze and make connections between seemingly disparate current state artifacts, and make reasoned predictions for our future. He is not an alarmist or naysayer. Neither does he blindly embrace all developments. I have followed him for over 20 years since I first spent time with him in San Diego at an event he mentions in the book. He wouldn't know me now, but he had significant impact on a young 30-something at that time.

Glad to have this new contribution from his brilliant mind.

This was probably on me. I wanted a book that would introduce me to the principles of design. I am not a designer, but I am interested in how principles of design can shape my thinking and approach in other areas such as strategic development, project management, innovation, or change management. So I intended to find a book that provided an intro into design thinking and methods generically.

This book seemed great for a designer who needs to learn how to sell his or her product and craft. It is full of great sales advice for perhaps temperamental or just inexperienced designers who need to make money. I have known several who could benefit from the clear, candid, almost fatherly way tge author presents the advice. But that is not me. I am still searching for the right book.

What made the experience of listening to Never Split the Difference the most enjoyable?

For me, I've had to negotiate in many areas of life - business, legal, and otherwise. But I'm not a professional negotiator. It's not my main shtick, and I have no formal training. I was very interested in learning the trade secrets. Boy, was this the right choice for a novice (and evidently also for pros based upon other reviewers)! I grew so much through this book. I am very happy I was exposed to it first in audio format. I wouldn't have it any other way. But now I need to get the hard copy to refer to again and again.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I definitely didn't want to stop. I listened to it during a 12 hour drive at 1.25x speed and finished it exactly as I arrived at my destination.

... all the way through. uninteresting story, not great narraration. i was looking forward to my first Faulkner experience, but I still have no idea what he wanted me to think about or experience through this story.

What did you love best about The Picture of Dorian Gray?

I read this book for a lit class in college back in the 1980s. It has stuck with me ever since and I was excited to see it on Audible.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lord Henry ("Harry") has got to be the book's most well-developed character. He is eccentric, articulate, likable, quick tongued, and terribly corrupt. He is evil in the most pleasant and fascinating way. He directs innocent Dorian on a course of damnation, yet you secretly want to be like him.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Steven Crossley?

Yes. My biggest criticism of the narrating is the pace. I am wondering if this is one of Steve's first audiobooks. If so, his later ones will probably be better. In this one he left long pauses where they were not warranted which kind of upset the flow and pace. He could have also used better developed emotions. However, his voice was pleasant, he did a decent job of adapting it to various characters and personalities (there are only 3 primary characters in the story but several minor ones), and his diction was good.

A good story with wonderful insights into life

A good story with wonderful insights into life and humanity. Chapter 1 was difficult to get into... the beginning wasn't easy to follow without the context of the rest (I was completely virgin to this story), and I nearly gave up. But I am happy I made it to Chapter 2 because from there on it began to fit together and became enjoyable.

The reading and performance were less than desirable. The narrator didn't have enough voices to use, or personalities within the voices, making it often difficult to follow who was speaking. He especially didn't do well with women's voices... they sounded like men, even other men's voices in the story. To his defense, there was a wide range of characters.

All in all, I am glad to have listened it through, but I think I would have benefited more from the print version (hough I am an avid audiobook listener).

Whether you are an armchair economist without education or title like me or are considering entering into economics as a profession, this book is a great introduction and overview. Highly recommended!
