Depressing but great!

What did you love best about Police?
I am unsure why this very depressing character Harry Hole draws me to read all of Jo Nesbo's books. With his alcoholism, Harry Hole hits rock bottom again and again, and somehow he manages to survive. Had to leave the book and come back to it. Harry Hole is now so depleted, and I wonder even with his change of life events, if he will make it.
