Historia
Eve Hatch lives for surprises! Just kidding. She expects every tomorrow to be pretty much the same as today. She loves her cozy apartment in Brooklyn that’s close to her childhood best friend Willa, and far from her midwestern, traditional family who has never really understood her. While her job is only dream-adjacent, it’s comfortable and steady. She always knows what to expect from her life . . . until she finds herself expecting after an uncharacteristic one-night stand.

So cute! And Great Narrator!
Revisado: 08-01-24
I love this narrator. She made some really cute quirky choices in her performance that just made the main character so likable to me.
I also really love Cara Bastone in general. She writes cute books with enough conflict to keep it interesting and the characters are good human beings with moral compasses. It gives me hope for the world in general…
This book in particular made me think several times, “Wow, these ppl are good ppl. Not everyone would respond like that in this situation…”

Dana K White is better.
Revisado: 07-25-24
This is okay. There are some decent ideas. But honestly, Dana K White is Better. Some of their advice is similar, but Dana gets it more. Also, the areas where their advice differs (like start de-cluttering in the most visible places versus starting in the attic) I think Dana makes a lot more sense. She truly understands how my brain works and helped me understand myself better (and understand my husband more) which then emotionally helped me with the de-cluttering process.
This is not a bad book. There was good food for thought. But Dana is just better.
There was also a section about working efficiently like with your day planner and emails, to-do-list type stuff as a self employed creative, which I think is useful and was not expected. Sometimes books like this feel like Ted talks. It’s inspiring, sometimes annoying and preachy, but by listening I attended the church of “get your life more organized” and so it was good. But I probably will not listen to it again, while Dana I have re-listened a few times…

A bit preachy
Revisado: 07-25-24
This book did have some good ideas. I especially found the section about getting family and spouse on board about de-cluttering helpful. This book gave me another perspective on space and stuff and in some ways it was inspiring so I’m glad I listened to it. But overall the book was preachy and a bit over the top. Like seriously, who chooses to play soccer over hockey simply because one has less supplies and therefore less clutter…?! It’s like every single one of her decisions is based on clutter or lack thereof. Also the section on recycling and renewable resources felt a bit much, especially because not wanting to be wasteful is one of the big reasons I have trouble letting go of stuff in the first place.
I don’t think she understanding the psyche of folks with a lot of stuff. At least not my psyche. I don’t have a bunch of crap because I think it’s a status symbol. It’s because I’m creative and resourceful and see the potential in things. I hope to sew this and paint that one day etc. I think Dana K White is much better at understanding my brain and giving concrete work arounds.
Also, She uses the word “furthermore” way too much. This isn’t a college essay.

Frozen meets Modern Romance Sci-Fi
Revisado: 07-18-16
This story isn't just a fantasy about ice shooting from a girls fingers like Elsa in Frozen. There is a mysterious sci-fi aspect to it as well. There seems to be some genetic modifications going on, not just "magic". I look forward to learning more about it in the next book. There's also a creepy group our protagonist, Mandy, has been running from called "The Center", I'm thinking it's a government organization. I wish Charles Xavier would come rescue her. I feel like any minute she's going to freeze a boy to death, just like when Rogue sucked the life out of that boy she kissed. haha.
It's a fun and unique book that I think both teens and adults will enjoy.
Parents will also appreciate that while this is a Teen Romance with some sexual tension and a little bit of language, the author Never encourages teen sex or drinking. She also very clearly applauds finishing high school and going to college (even though the protagonist is reluctant.) It's surprising to me how many young adult books are about kids getting into trouble and don't paint that in a negative light. I'm not saying Mandy is an angel, she's got spunk, you'll like her.
I also enjoyed listening to the narrator, Gwyneth. She actually sounds like a teenager with an attitude, not a 30 year old reading a book.

Perfect Paranormal Series. LISTEN NOW
Revisado: 07-18-16
What made the experience of listening to Seven Years the most enjoyable?
This review is for the whole series
CHARACTERS- lovable and respectable
STORY- great pacing, romance, action, adventure, kidnappings, mysteries....
SEX- not too much, not too little and well performed
PERFORMANCE- dynamite (and I'm picky).
What about Nicole Poole’s performance did you like?
Nicole Poole is a great narrator. I hated her voice for the first 10minutes and at times the recording quality wasn't dynamite, but then a bit further into the book she BLEW ME AWAY. Her male voices are especially great. They are each unique and distinguishable but also not over the top and annoying. Her acting is terrific as well. When I listen I am completely immersed.
Any additional comments?
Dannika Dark makes the paranormal aspects of this story really great. There are a lot of books that explore the dynamics within wolf packs, but she makes the family dynamics in this pack very "real". The alpha males aren't so alpha-y that you want to smack them and say "get over yourself". They respect their women but also are macho in that sexy way you gotta love.
The author also added new types of paranormal characters that I've never heard of before and they really work. I'd highly recommend listening to the series about Mages, the first is titled Sterling. It will give more background info that intertwines nicely with these books. Also, the relationship the paranormal world has with the human world seems more believable in these books than others out there.

So far this book is my favorite in the series. I didn't get bored once. I'm not going to say that I'm thrilled with the ending, but I don't want to spoil anything so I'll remain silent. Can't wait for the next one.

Hard to listen to
Revisado: 07-10-14
What did you like best about Close Liaisons? What did you like least?
The story was good enough that I felt compelled to read the second book but there was way too much sex. It's not exciting if every chapter has a sex scene in my opinion. I also really didn't like the narrator. It was like listening to a computer read.
