Great story, Bad Narrator
Revisado: 12-05-24
eted. I would highly recommend readers of all ages to ‘read’ this series.
Narration: I do NOT recommend anyone to buy this book on audible. I am sure the narrator is a very nice person, and to be honest his normal reading voice is pleasant. However, that is where it ends.
- he seems to caught up on his accents. Seems like he is more concerned with using a bad French or Irish accent over telling the story
- sarcasm is totally lost. This story has so many funny sarcastic lines, which falls totally flat by the narrator.
- seems like the narrator didn’t read or understand the line before reading aloud. Inflection such as questions, surprise, anger, etc are read so flatly.
- Garion’s internal voice - Irish Accent? Please Nooo… unfortunately, yes.
This was the final straw for me. I will not be purchasing any more stories read by this narrator.
I went back and forth on whether to leave this review. I really don’t like criticizing any narrator, because frankly I could not do it myself. However, I felt I needed to give ample information to anyone thinking about purchasing this audio book or any others in this series.
There may be some listeners that like the way this story is read, and for those , I hope you enjoy this marvelous story!

Garion travels through strange lands with master sorcerers Belgarath and Polgara in frantic pursuit of the Orb. But as his own powers grow, Garion starts to realize that he too may have a part to play-a part he isn't sure he wants . . .

Great story, bad narration
Revisado: 12-05-24
In my review, I want to first ask a simple question: what is wrong with the David Eddings foundation that they can’t find a high quality narrator for this series. The first narrator was abysmal, and they got a second narrator for the series who is only slightly better. There are so many amazing narrator’s out there…
Now for my review: The story is wonderful. Eddings is able to create characters with depth and personality. The character development is extensive and many faceted. I would highly recommend readers of all ages to read this series.

Please Stop using Dual Narrators
Revisado: 08-11-23
The story as always was very entertaining. Lorelei king is an amazing narrator! When will Authors stop trying out dual narrators? Especially a man and a woman? It makes the story fall flat on so many levels. I am sure George Newbern is a very nice gentleman, but very few men can perform a woman’s voice. George unfortunately, was not the exception. Authors need to stop this practice. It ruins the story. If this had been book 1 in the series, I would have never purchased additional books. As it was, I tried to suffer through hoping the male reader would be short. In closing, I would pay to have Lorelei King read a dictionary. The story would have been 5 Star if she ware the only reader

Narration is ….. OMG
Revisado: 02-22-23
I have really enjoyed this series. I love that Elicia Hyder writes with strong female characters. This narrator however, reads each female character as if they are Snow White. It absolutely ruined the story for me and I had to stop after 9 chapters. Why is it that many male narrators can’t perform female characters? I am so sadly disappointed that I am having a hard time believing others rated the performance over a 1 or 2. I am starting to lose faith in the audible ratings.

They say the best things come to those who wait, and no one hopes that's true more than Special Operations Commander Nathan McNamara. For over a year, he's put his life, his career, and his mother's hopes for more grandchildren on hold to dive headfirst into a world he never knew existed. A world full of angels, demons, and enough sexual frustration to crack the Pope. But all that is supposed to be behind him, and his future looks bright and full of possibilities. That is, until a familiar chill ripples the atmosphere - and a supernatural thunder rumbles over the mountains.

Great story but narration is lacking
Revisado: 02-21-23
I really enjoy the writing and the story. The narration however pulls the story down. The reader lacks inflection. Several of the authors characters tend to be a bit snarky and sarcastic. Their comments come out flat as the reader simply reads the words with no meaning behind them. The female voices are not good at all, and I struggled to get through the story because of this.

Revisado: 11-11-22
I love this author! The narrator, as always, was superb. The story about Peta however, was lackluster and not very exciting. Pretty much a retelling of book 3 with little to no new content. I do not believe you will miss anything if you skip this book.

Read this review before purchasing
Revisado: 06-29-18
First I want to review the 'Story' written by David and Leigh Eddings. As the 12th book in the series, the story is very well written. The character development is on par with what you expect from Eddings. I have all of the writings from Eddings, and I have read them several times. I must admit that my pages are getting a bit worn. The entire 12 book series is fantastic, and I suggest everyone read them.
Now let us move on to the Audible version. I purchased this audible to help my commute to work go a bit easier. That being said, I respect those who perform. I believe and understand that it is a difficult job. I am sure there are many stories that Dina Pearlman narrates wonderfully... However, this story is NOT one of them. It is difficult to decide where to even begin to describe the issues with this 'nightmare' of a narration.... There are so many reasons why the narration totally ruins the story, so I will be somewhat brief:
1) The voices alone for each of the characters is really (and I mean REALLY) bad. The male characters all sound like small children (even when it is a god or a king speaking). The mother of Polgara (Poledra) sounds like Endora (from Bewitched). When strong characters speak in weak voices, it totally disrupts and ruins the story. I realize it is sometimes difficult for a woman to do male voices. However, I have listened to MANY wonderful female narrators, and they do a superb job at all the voices (be they male or female). There were only a few character voices that were bearable, the rest might as well have been fingernails on a chalkboard. I believe I would have rather the entire story be read in monotone rather than ruin the story with the voices used.
2) The next topic is around the pronunciation of names for characters and places. First off, this is the TWELFTH book in the series. In all of the other 11 books (narrated by a different person), the character names and places were pronounced consistently (whether you like them or not, is a moot point). This narrator in her infinite wisdom decided to come up with her own pronunciations for everything. I am not sure if this is from sheer arrogance, or the fact she did not bother to listen to any of the previous 11 books. Even many common every day words are pronounced oddly. The fact remains that her pronunciation is, in a word, HORRENDOUS. Once again, liken it to nails on a chalkboard.
3) Thirdly, there are many times that I feel the narrator did not bother to read the sentence before recording it. She will vocally place a period (pause) where one does not belong. making the sentence awkward and hard to follow. An example would be:
"I believe I will be leaving now". Polgara said the horses walked down the path towards the Vale.
vs
"I believe I will be leaving now" Polgara said. The horses walked down the path towards the Vale.
Sentences like this is very frustrating indeed.
Overall, I would recommend the book to anyone that asks, However, DO NOT buy the audible.book. I should have simply returned the book after the first chapter or two, but I keep being hopeful that it would get better, or I would get used to the narration. It didn't, and I didn't.....

Six years had passed since the redoubtable knight Sparhawk had triumphed over the evil God Azash and returned to Elenia with Queen Ehlana, his bride. And now a new danger had arisen to threaten the peace of Ehlana's realm. The trouble had started quietly. At home, bandits began to plague the hill country. In neighboring Lamorkand, the customary political unrest turned ominous with whispers that the bloody heroes of old soon would rise again.

A wonderful story, ruined by the narrator
Revisado: 05-23-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I realize readers sometimes change, between or in a series. However, this reader pronounces everything very different than than in the initial trilogy "The Elenium". This really distracts from the story. Frankly the reader ruined this series for me.
What other book might you compare Domes of Fire to and why?
The Sapphire Rose
What didn’t you like about Kevin Pariseau’s performance?
Very much disliked his pronunciation on most names and locations. It appeared he purposely tried to pronounce everything differently that the reader in the Elenium. It just did not work
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Domes of Fire?
I enjoyed the story and the scenes. Not sure I would change anything.
