I've enjoyed the Thrawn character ever since Zahn's first trilogy back in the '90s. That being said I hope the character doesn't become over utilised & loose the uniqueness. This book is still worth the read & starts giving a wonderful origin story of Thrawn all the while introducing us to the Chiss Ascendency & the 9 ruling families.

There is a really good story here as you learn about Thrawn as a cadet & even is slightly different in the Chiss society for his tactical mind, but has no clue on politics. I would recoomend this book to any Star Wars fan.

Burke needs to go back to NYC!

Burke is still living on the west coast with Gem & still mourning his losses. He's without "his family" & trying to start a new life while prowling around unfamiliar Portland, Oregon trying to find a teenaged runaway. She doesn't fit the usual profile of a runaway that he knows so well. There is just something about the father. . .

I didn't like this book as much as some of its predecessors, while still gritty, Burke seemed to be floundering too long & a few characters were unnecessary for the plot & I could've done without one of the subplots. Vaachss does a good job of shaking up Burke's "comfortable" life to get him out of NY, but its time for him to go back. I missed all the supporting characters that make these books better (Mama, Max the Silent, the Prof, Clarence, the Mole, & the rest). I still plan on finishing this series.

This book was a impulse buy, I'm a pretty decent Dresden Files fan & Conor Night is quite the contrast. Conor went from a brilliant surgeon with a wife & kid, but once a terminal cancer diagnosis is given he throws it all away & runs away. Years later Conor is in a half life & a necromancer staying alive thru a treatment he must take regularly to stay alive. I really did enjoy this book, the pacing was perfect & the narration was amazing. I will return to this series & would completely recommend this.

I’m a Browncoat & will forever be one. This was a suspenseful beginning to a long-time needed novel series. The story’s timeline is during the 2002 tv series timeline & gives a lot of much wanted background on this “Big Damn Hero” CPT Malcom Reynolds. We get some schoolin’ on Mal’s life on his home world of Shadow. As Mal gets overpowered & taken hostage by a group of former Browncoats for the crimes of treason & betrayal during the war for Independence. While Zoe & the rest of the crew of Serenity try to find what happen to Mal, plus figure out how they’re suppose to get their shipment of explosives delivered before becoming unstable. It’s a long trek remembering Mal’s & the other three members of the Four Amigos, plus his first love. All the humour & fun of the TV show, movie & comic miniseries are all right here. “You can’t take the sky from me”.

Third in the Wrexford & Sloane Series

Murder at Kensington Palace is the third book in the Wrexford & Sloane mystery series. Though Charlotte Sloane’s secret identity as the controversial satirical cartoonist A.J. Quill is safe with the Earl of Wrexford, she’s ill prepared for the rippling effects sharing the truth about her background has cast over their relationship. She thought a bit of space might improve the situation. But when her cousin is murdered and his twin brother is accused of the gruesome crime, Charlotte immediately turns to Wrexford for help in proving the young man’s innocence.

The story does a good job balancing between solving the mystery & the potential romantic relationship with Wrexford & Sloane. All the usual supporting characters make their appearance (Kip, Hawk, Raven & the rest) in support of both to solve the murder. The pace the book is good & the banter is still there between the characters. I don't really need the romantic portion of the story as long as everything else is present. There is a decent amount of growth in several of the characters. The suspense was lacking, but plenty of suspects.

I do plan on continuing this series.

Like I said in my first update when I started this novel, I put off reading this book for as long as I could. I wasn't ready to part ways with Kellen, Reichs, Ferius & the rest of the characters of this wondrous series. The writing in this series (like in the Greatcoats series) had kept me guessing as to how Kellen would be changed by the end of this series, but I also knew it wouldn't be in the ways I thought.

I can't believe how much I enjoyed this novel & will continue to read any novel Sebastien de Castell writes. Speaking as a son & having a father (& stepfather) that I didn't meet their expectations of the type of boy they wanted. The writing of this hit such a tone within me by Mr. de Castell's writing style.

Double-crossed, shot, and left for dead — by his wife. The thriller that introduces Parker. “A brilliant invention”. Parker wants what is his, $45k & will not stop till he gets it. Parker is NOT a good guy nor does he want to be. Written originally in 1962 & having two movies made based off the character by Lee Marvin & Mel Gibson.

Isn't always the way? I loved the Chevy Chase movie "Fletch" when I was a kid, at the time I was 11yrs old in 1985. I had no clue it was based on this book. While both are similar in plot I think I liked the novel better than the movie. Keeping in mind that this book was originally written in 1974, so there are things in this book that wouldn't necessarily be socially acceptable today. Fletch is an amazing investigative reporter & a little sleazy in certain areas of his life. Very much like in the movie he takes on a variety of identities to get to the bottom of Stanwyk's proposal, but unlike the movie it's done mostly on the phone. The ending is also different, but I enjoyed the books ending better than the "Hollywood" ending.

Daniel Hawthorne is back with Anthony Horowitz chronicling as they solve the case of a murdered divorce attorney. Horowitz does a great job bringing in parts of his own personal life & the demands of working multiple projects while trying to follow the overly private about his life Hawthorne. While their “business arrangement” is strained several times thru the story it does make you wonder why Horowitz wanted to continue writing Hawthorne’s involvement. I am looking forward to Horowitz’s next novel whether it be Hawthorne #3, Sherlock Holmes, or James Bond. I will keep reading what he writes.

Fletcher's Fortune is a wonderful story of what life was like in the British Navy during the 17th century & John Drake does a superb job in the authenticity of his telling. The characters are clever & we see a fast development in Jacob Fletcher (our protagonist). The web of intrigue around Fletcher is intricate as his "stepmother" & "half-brothers" are seeking to be rid of him. Unfortunately the quality of this audiobook is garbage, it has nothing to do with the narrator himself (Joseph Lindoe). Endeavor Media did a crap job in the editing of the audiobook & you can tell where the breaks are as the narrator reads, as you'll here several lines of prose be read 2 or even 3 times before the story continues. This can be a bit distracting & confusing.

I don't want to take away from the quality of Drake's writing or Lindoe's narration because both a solid, but Endeavor Media should actually review their books quality before making them available for purchase.
