Historia
Bassam Aramin is Palestinian. Rami Elhanan is Israeli. They inhabit a world of conflict that colors every aspect of their daily lives, from the roads they are allowed to drive on, to the schools their daughters, Abir and Smadar, each attend, to the checkpoints, both physical and emotional, they must negotiate. Their worlds shift irreparably after 10-year-old Abir is killed by a rubber bullet and 13-year-old Smadar becomes the victim of suicide bombers. When Bassam and Rami learn of each other’s stories, they recognize the loss that connects them.

Unique style, very effective
Revisado: 03-04-25
The author actually made me feel what he was trying to get me to understand before I understood it. I didn’t grasp what was happening at first then it gradually clicked for me as I was reading along. I’m a linear story teller and thinker. I like a one or two sentence back cover blurb to catch my interest. The style the author used did not draw me onto any judgmental path but an emotional one. I did not anticipate how much the author’s writing would draw me into the lives of the people he introduced to me. The style and construction of the writing was frustrating at first. But I hung in there, The title is perfect, the writing is beautiful and powerful. Thank you Mr. McCann!

Patricia Cornwell ‘s books always a good read.
Revisado: 11-13-24
Great details, and well constructed story. Ms Cornwell’s vast research and knowledge she brings into her Dr Scarletta character is well appreciated by medical professionals. But the details may not be appreciated by all readers of mysteries!

Historia
Christian Cooper is a self-described “Blerd” (Black nerd), an avid comics fan and expert birder who devotes every spring to gazing upon the migratory birds that stop to rest in Central Park, just a subway ride away from where he lives in New York City. While in the park one morning in May 2020, Cooper was engaged in the birdwatching ritual that had been a part of his life since he was ten years old when what might have been a routine encounter with a dog walker exploded age-oldracial tensions. Cooper’s viral video of the incident would send shock waves through the nation.

Entertaining story, however the voices & choice of dialogue made the characters sound like adolescents and not grown young women.

The author’s voice of his 9 year old self.
Revisado: 05-30-24
The author, as an adult, writing in the voice of his 9 year old self was wonderful. Emotionally, I was engaged in his story from the beginning. Thank goodness the author is now an adult living in Tucson so I knew he survived. Amazing journey few could make at such a young age. I thought unaccompanied minors were actually 15, 16 year olds.. I couldn’t imagine a nine year old making this arduous trip. Although Solito was obviously brilliant he still saw the wonder in the discovery of a child. He was fearful but not jaded, but he was curious and observant. Bravo!
