HORRIBLE ENDING
Revisado: 03-11-25
I feel so dumb for finishing this book. I kept hoping the end would be worth it. I kept waiting for a twist. Nope. Like she ran out of time and had to wrap it up. As far as the narrator... She's REALLY slow and the boy sometimes sounded like a teenager, sometimes like he was 4. Ugh.

Main character is obnoxious
Revisado: 01-15-25
In the first couple of books of the series she was tolerable but sheesh. She's so reactive, she makes huge mistakes and is allowed to do it over and over. She hurts innocent people and is oversensitive, wimpy, shrill and waaay drama bordering on hysterical-sounding. That's obviously part of the narrator's issue but together, yuck. Won't listen to any more.

The ending was a disappointment. Throughout was very repetitive like working toward a word count.

LOVED IT!
Revisado: 11-10-24
Great story. I know it sounds cliche but I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book. I loved the way the two stories come together. It was nice to have likable, smart, nice characters. It winds up PERFECTLY. The narrator was a little too monotone and the voices weren't always distinct but it was not too bad.

He's That Guy. You know, the hero in almost every romance novel. The super-rich, powerful CEO who is beyond sexy. Lives in a penthouse. Is wicked in bed. Has massive.... feet. Is kind of a jerk, but really he's not because he harbors some major secret that, once revealed, explains why he is the way he is - therefore completely redeeming himself and making all the listeners who hated to love him swoon....

Just not my idea of funny or fun. Hate it. The narrator is also too fast, too slow and sounds like she's really straining. I normally don't quit on a book but I'm 3 chapters in and done.

Historia
It's been seven years since the Seattle Strangler terrorized the city. His victims were all young, pretty, their lifeless bodies found wrapped in a home-sewn white dress. But there was one who miraculously escaped death, just before the Strangler disappeared. Lara Church has only hazy memories of her long-ago attack. What she does have is a home in Austin, a job, and a chance at a normal life at last. Then Texas Ranger James Beck arrives on her doorstep with shattering news: The Strangler is back....

Barely started, can't finish. Zero stars if I could
Revisado: 10-22-24
The accents and voices are ridiculous - there's Sooki from True Blood and a menagerie of weird TX/southern "husky", breathy voices that are hard to tell apart.
From the moment the main male character meets the woman WHO WAS BRUTALLY ATTACKED AND ALMOST KILLED he is not just derisive, combative and cruel but goes over her body like she's in a bar and they're checking each other out. Then SHE looks over his "lean, muscular, wide shouldered" body as she's learning the serial killer who almost killed her is likely in her neighborhood killing more women.
It gets worse from there. The men (cops!) treat her like dirt and I'm sorry but the way the male character "stares down" her dog is just a bunch of chest thumping. So disappointed. I listen to tons of "police procedurals" and other books - usually 3 or so a week - and have never been so utterly disgusted.

Historia
It's been over a decade since Nora left her hometown of Scupper Island, Maine, and very seldom looked back. She's carved out a successful life in Boston, where no one knows her as the awkward girl with the delinquent sister and the dad who left, but a not-as-dramatic-as-it-sounds brush with death has her taking stock of her life. Inspired to reconnect with her prickly mother and snarky teenage niece, Nora returns home for the summer, where she's forced to face the people she's spent the last ten years trying to avoid.

Revisado: 10-13-24
The story was beautiful. Excellent descriptions of landscapes and people without being overdone. The dialog was interesting and the twists and turns captivating. The narrator does an excellent job! The end had me in tears. I will listen again. (I usually don't like stories with family conflict)

Trigger warnings
Revisado: 09-30-24
Parent dying at home in hospice, drug addiction, more but - it's a book. The dying was hard to read; it's dark and actually very vivid and real - thus the TW.
Mostly enjoyable but hard to tell which narrator was which at times except for whomever used the "vocal fry" which is awful and the rest of her reading was flat.

Historia
Simone used to be the woman that other women would use if they suspected that their partner was cheating. She would investigate, find out the truth, and if the men were guilty, exact revenge. But after things went wrong with one couple, Simone was forced to go into hiding. Simone is now Mary, a mild-mannered woman who doesn't raise her voice or get angry, meaning nobody would suspect her of being capable of the things she used to do for a living. But when she finds out that her new boyfriend is having an affair, it awakens in her the person she used to be.

Major, major plot holes, plus the characters were all unlikable.

This book was awful! I can't believe I listened to the whole thing. As I said - everyone was unlikeable, the situations were ridiculous in a not fun way and the "big twist" was barely a blink.
