It was really funny and silly and I found myself laughing out loud quite a few times. The narrators were good. Sometimes Alexander Cendese’s acting was infomercial-ish and his voices for women were not cute, but he added a lot of character to Ben. Avery Reid was absolutely great as Sarafina. She had libra energy.

The love that Ben and Sarafina seemed to feel for each other almost immediately was forced. I think in the same chapter Ben was like “I know nothing about her” and also “omg I’m in love with her”. They actually explained it as being rom com insta love like that was enough explanation.

There was a lot of build up chemistry-wise, but I didn’t even know they had had sex until Sarafina was talking about it during the dark period of the book. So that was disappointing. I typically prefer open door scenes and thought this book would be more steamy based off the description.

Anyway, it was cute and funny.

Since It Happened One Summer was so good, I was very excited and had very high expectations for this book. It was good. It was worth a credit and I’ll probably listen again. My main issues is that I feel like the feelings Fox and Hannah developed for each other were kind of unexplained, and that was probably supposed to be explained by the months of texts we didn’t see. I think a few more would have made it make more sense. In It Happened One Summer, there was an immediate physical attraction between Piper and Brendan, but Brendan wasn’t immediately falling for her. They had their issues and slowly realized the good in each other and opened up. But in this book (SPOILER?), Fox apparently was all in immediately and honestly idk where Hannah’s feelings came from. I guess in the many texts we were not privy too.

Despite this, I enjoyed the story. There were like 3 or 4 sex scenes that were very steamy, but that’s not surprising since this is a Tessa Bailey book. Honestly there was less sex than I expected. The storyline itself was interesting and I enjoyed seeing Hannah figure herself out and help Fox with his own issues.

Lauren sweet was good, but there are other female narrators who’s male voices I prefer (I’m looking at you Andi Arndt). Lauren’s is a little creepy. Additionally she would pronounce “Hannah” like H-aw-nah approximately half the time. I wondered if it was because she thought that’s how people from LA say Hannah, but I’m from LA and that is definitely not true. It wouldn’t have been an issue if every other sentence didn’t mention Hannah.

The conflict was unbelievably frustrating. What Alice does to Roan is kinda unforgivable and she continues to make it worse and worse by making terrible decisions. The whole time I was listening I was thinking “No. No. What are you doing?? How do you think this is a good idea? How is this getting payback? Delete the video. Delete the video. Why haven’t you deleted the video? Delete it. Delete it delete it delete it.” It had it’s moments but I couldn’t get over what she did even if she was in a bad place and I don’t believe that Roan would get over it either.

I have never disliked the characters in a book so much. FMC is her own worst enemy. She’s violent, aggressive, immature, and she makes the stupidest decisions, her brother is manipulative and infuriating, and the MMC has few redeeming qualities and never says what he actually means and it’s SO FRUSTRATING. Everything could’ve been fine 8+ years before the story takes place if they just talked to each other. I don’t really know what Darcy’s heart condition adds to the story. If it was supposed to make her more of a sympathetic character, it didn’t work.
