Historia
This companion tale tells the story of Ruth, the daughter that Rachel Kalama - quarantined for most of her life at an isolated leprosy settlement - was forced to give up at birth. The book follows young Ruth from her arrival at the Kapi'olani Home for Girls in Honolulu to her adoption by a Japanese couple who raise her on a strawberry and grape farm in California, her marriage and unjust internment at Manzanar Relocation Camp during World War II - and then, after the war, to the life-altering day when she receives a letter from a woman who says she is Ruth’s birth mother.

I loved the detail and information about Hawaii. Learned so much about leprosy that I never knew. This is a very sad but heartwarming story. So glad to have listened

Dream On
Revisado: 06-27-24
A motivating start to read more scientific studies about dreaming. This author presents scientific studies as well as his own theories about the dream state. It explains ideas of my own and opens up so many possibilities to consider. Easy to understand for the medical community as well as the lay person.

Do Not Miss this Book
Revisado: 06-19-24
I had heard there was a leper colony in Molokai, Hawaii but could not imagine how extensive lives were deeply changed by residing there. A deeply moving story and it is related quickly, holding interest. A novel based on lives of real people.

Beryl Markham was not well known as Amelia ehrhardt was. But she was ever bit the heroine and the most amazing woman. The whole story about being raised in Africa, learning to fly, and finally her trip across the Atlantic to North America. This book will not disappoint you. The writing is superb, as is the story.

Historia
Greg Marshall's early years were pretty bizarre. Rewind the VHS tapes and you'll see a lopsided teenager limping across a high school stage, or in a wheelchair after leg surgeries, pondering why he's crushing on half of the Utah Jazz. Add to this home video footage a mom clacking away at her newspaper column between chemos, a dad with ALS, and a cast of foulmouthed siblings. Fast forward the tape and you'll find Marshall happily settled into his life as a gay man only to discover he's been living in another closet his whole life.

This is the most astonishingly, honest memoir that I have ever read. Greg Marshall does an excellent job of narrating his own incredible, difficult life with humor and insight. I hope he continues to write and share his insight and creativity.

Historia
For centuries, works of art have been stolen in countless ways from all over the world, but no one has been quite as successful at it as the master thief Stéphane Breitwieser. Carrying out more than two hundred heists over nearly eight years—in museums and cathedrals all over Europe—Breitwieser, along with his girlfriend who worked as his lookout, stole more than three hundred objects, until it all fell apart in spectacular fashion.

Revisado: 07-16-23
This is an unforgettable true story that is well written. It is well researched, including interviews and an acquaintance with the art thief. The thief does not steal for money but to be surrounded by beauty. This story kept my attention from beginning to end. I highly recommend it.

Historia
Joe Allston is a retired literary agent who is, in his own words, "killing time before time gets around to killing me." His parents and his only son are long dead, leaving him with neither ancestors nor descendants, tradition nor ties. His job, trafficking the talent of others, had not been his choice. He passes through life as a spectator. But a postcard from a friend causes him to return to the journals of a trip he had taken years before.

Gloomy
Revisado: 07-12-23
If you like depressing, gloomy stories, this book is for you! My gosh, I was left with doom and gloom and almost did not complete this book.
I agree that the writer is skillful in imagination and writing. But there are so many unresolved plots. It takes a long time to get into this book and just when it started getting interesting, the developing plot was dropped. The narrator did a good job.
