Historia
One hundred thousand years ago, at least six human species inhabited the Earth. Today there is just one. Us. Homo sapiens. How did our species succeed in the battle for dominance? Why did our foraging ancestors come together to create cities and kingdoms? How did we come to believe in gods, nations, and human rights; to trust money, books, and laws; and to be enslaved by bureaucracy, timetables, and consumerism?

It's hard to say....
Revisado: 04-30-15
When Harari sticks to his field of expertise, he has many fascinating insights. When he delves into theology, he's way out of his league, and has an atheistic bias. I could take apart most of his God arguments in about two minutes...but he wouldn't get it.

Historia
Often called the greatest novel ever written, War and Peace is at once an epic of the Napoleonic wars, a philosophical study, and a celebration of the Russian spirit. Tolstoy's genius is clearly seen in the multitude of characters in this massive chronicle, all of them fully realized and equally memorable.

Cartoon voices ruin this
Revisado: 06-22-13
What disappointed you about War and Peace?
The narrator, who already has a pronounced though not objectionable British accent, insists on doing voices for all the characters -- young women, old women, old men....and they are done as stereotypes. It's like a cartoon and after a few hours I just couldn't listen anymore. I felt I was not being allowed to form my own impression of a character, so strong was the narrator's influence.

Worse than anything I could imagine
Revisado: 04-28-13
Where does The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Near the top
What did you like best about this story?
Thoroughness of detail and realism
Which scene was your favorite?
When the good guys started winning.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Extreme, yes -- my experience with literary villains has been mostly fictional -- Darth Vader, Sauron; or ancient, such as Pilate and Herod. What amazed me about this book is that although fictional authors can write their villains to be as evil as they want, none of them even came close to the evil of this reality.
Any additional comments?
It really made me think about where God was in all this.

Historia
In this remarkable recording, C. S. Lewis shows why millions of readers have acclaimed him the greatest spokesman for Christianity in the 20th century. In a resonant, baritone voice, Lewis explores the nature of the four Greek words that are translated love in English: storge (affection), philia (friendship), eros (sexual or romantic love) and agape (selfless love).

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Any additional comments?
my hero looked really bad. terrible reading; pathetically outdated chauvinistic attitude towards women. And many irrelevant interludes by Chuck Colson, whose theology Lewis would have despised

Historia
What sort of "person" is God? Is it possible to approach him not as an object of religious reverence, but as the protagonist of the world's greatest book--as a character who possesses all the depths, contradictions, and abiguities of a Hamlet? In this "brilliant, audacious book" ( Chicago Tribune), a former Jesuit marshalls a vast array of learning and knowledge of the Hebrew Bible to illuminate God--and man--with a sense of discovery and wonder.
