Historia
When a young dancer burns to death on stage, her friend Génet Shilling wants to know why. That puzzle leads Génet through strange underworlds, upending everything she thought was real. An urban faerie tale from the author behind Mage, Deliria, and Powerchords, Red Shoes explores a realm where music becomes magic; love, death, and energy converge; and time is just a state of sound.

Magic, mystery, and trauma, but in a good way
Revisado: 09-07-24
So first things first. I was given a copy by the author in a trade but I did purchase the audiobook on my own.
With that out of the way...
I was not prepared for this book. I had been a Mage: the Ascension player for a long while and saw much of the influence of his previous work on this. At first it reads like a well crafted Mage origin story as someone slowly awakening to magic. His characters are relatable and reminded me of people I know or used to know in various communities so there was some comfort in that. I was enjoying the ride and completely forgot about the Trigger Warning he puts in the beginning of the book. The terror that he brought to the page through realism actually terrified me. By the end, it's a magical, spiritual mindset that radiates through the work.
The performance was great and who ever did the engineering needs an award. There are times when the performer is whispering as the character does where it doesn't sound very clear if you have any ambient noises to contest with, but over all, very well done.
This was well worth the credit. I hope to see more from the author!

it's ok.

technically it was fine. the story was decent and the actor did a fine job even if he can get monotonous at times. I was just sort of bored with it. this might just be me but it didn't really grab me, or the times I thought it would, it didn't go as expected.
ever read a book and you just want to scream "just boink already!" yeah. it was kind of like that.

Historia
Ronnie - or as Mrs. Baumgartner insists on calling her, Veronica - has been sitting for the Baumgartners so long she has practically become another member of the family. When the Baumgartners make her an offer she can't refuse, Ronnie jumps at the chance to work on her tan in the Florida Keys with "Doc" and "Mrs. B" under the pretense of watching the kids. Ronnie isn't the only one with ulterior motives, though, and she discovers that the Baumgartners have wayward plans for her.

What did you love best about Babysitting for the Baumgartners?
This very sensual and blazing hot erotica story had me eager with anticipation for the next encounter and the next chapter. Selena Kitt's story telling techniques are very intimate and emotional thus adding to the eroticism. Very nice. This the first time I heard the performer and she does not disappoint.
What did you like best about this story?
The intimacy of the characters I think was the best. Oh and the sex scenes... but that goes without saying.
Have you listened to any of E.V. Grove’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is the first one of her's I encountered. More to come.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I wanted to listen to in one sitting to find what happened next, but the mind can't take that much stimulation.
