Historia
Six days after giving birth, a polar bear named Aurora got up and walked away from her den at the Columbus Zoo, leaving her tiny squealing cub to fend for herself. Hours later, Aurora still hadn’t returned. The cub was furless and blind, and with her temperature dropping dangerously, the zookeepers entrusted with her care felt they had no choice: They would have to raise one of the most dangerous predators in the world by hand. Over the next few weeks, a group of veterinarians and zookeepers worked around the clock to save the cub, whom they called Nora.

Reads like a textbook, but still tells a truth
Revisado: 01-18-22
Another voice in the telling of our failure to protect our earth, with additional heros and prophets, told in plain language designed to relate, but fails to inspire.

Historia
Brandi Carlile was born into a musically gifted, impoverished family on the outskirts of Seattle and grew up in a constant state of change, moving from house to house, trailer to trailer, 14 times in as many years. Though imperfect in every way, her dysfunctional childhood was as beautiful as it was strange, and as nurturing as it was difficult. At the age of five, Brandi contracted bacterial meningitis, which almost took her life, leaving an indelible mark on her formative years and altering her journey into young adulthood.

Beautifully told autobiigraphy
Revisado: 07-11-21
I cancelled a breakfast date to finish this book, "illustrated" by her songs. it's a polished telling of a rough life. Brandi speaks openly of her struggles to live an authentic life, personally and artistically, in a society threatened by her unapologetic love of women. Her drive to perform her music is supported by her strength of character. She learns to navigate the complex music industry. I think she finds allies because of her awed appreciation of successful artists and her bold defense of her place on that stage. The beauty of this performance is the songs she sings, alone with minimum accompaniment, after revealing the circumstances of the creation.

A gift to the future
Revisado: 12-11-20
The story of decisions made, lessons learned, politics vs statesmanship, spoken by a master. This revelation of power of the presidency and the limits should inform all citizens that only morally, intellectually and psychologically superior people should be selected to lead. President Obama has given a window on a functional White House and effective leadership. We learn why some outcomes were positive and some not so much. It also reminds us that we have much to thank and to regret to luck and fate. And an ethical practice of politics can give us the best outcome possible. I anxiously away Volume 2.

Historia
Still Life with Bread Crumbs begins with an imagined gunshot and ends with a new tin roof. Between the two is a wry and knowing portrait of Rebecca Winter, a photographer whose work made her an unlikely heroine for many women. Her career is now descendent, her bank balance shaky, and she has fled the city for the middle of nowhere. There she discovers, in a tree stand with a roofer named Jim Bates, that what she sees through a camera lens is not all there is to life.
