I got this because I have become so enamored of Frances McDormand's performance in the movie, and she does not disappoint as an audiobook narrator either. I usually enjoy English romance novels of this era (between the Wars) and this was no exception.

Having become so fascinated with the movie, and having it so fresh in my mind, it was really interesting to see what was kept, what was condensed, and what was altered. Stuff was changed, characters altered, but the spirit was the same.

All in all, a very enjoyable few hours.

I have been a fan of Patty Briggs' werewolves since I first read Alpha and Omega in 2008. In this book Ms. Briggs takes that world, in conjunction with the Mercy Templeton world begun with Moon Called, and fills in the backstories. She also tells an exciting story all of its own.

With all the best intentions I intended to listen to Burn Bright over several days. I devoured it in a day and a half. I tried to take it slow but once the plot started to spool out I had to find out what happened. The full story of the peanut butter. Leah becomes a real person. More than one reason Bran sent Mercy away.

If you haven't read about these characters before, I would recommend at least reading the novella Alpha and Omega and Moon Called for context. But maybe that's just me.

I look forward to a new Patty Briggs book every Spring, and this one did not disappoint.

This is definitely my favorite of the Stage Dive novels- which is one of my favorite series. It is funny- quotes flew back and forth at my Book Group for months. It is moving. There is an unforced depth to the emotion. Mal has got to be one of my favorite heroes ever. Anne is an average woman caught up with an extraordinary man in the midst of crisis. Loved, loved, loved it. In the series, this, then Lick and Lead are my favorites. Deep is pretty good, but the first 3 are excellent.

Where does The Coroner’s Lunch rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Near the top

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Never knew what was going to happen, only that Siri, Dtui, Mr Geung and Pavilai would probably be okay at the end. Personal note: I looked up the names. One of the few downsides for me of audio books is that I don't know how things are spelled. On the other hand, I at least know how they are pronounced.

Which scene was your favorite?

The end when the bad guys got what they deserved. And the part with the Hmong. And the part where Mr Geung bawls him out so he promotes Dtui. And most of his interactions with Pavilai. And the part where he tells off the chicken counter. There were a lot of good parts.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, but I listened to it in 2 days.

Any additional comments?

The paranormal parts sort of reminded me of the same sort of thing in the Longmire books. Stuff that would be nifty to believe is real. I also really enjoy books where the author's obvious wealth of background knowledge supports the story rather than becoming the point of the book.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I read Garden Spells several years ago, and enjoyed revisiting Bascom and the grumpy apple tree.

What was one of the most memorable moments of First Frost?

Henry's observation about Tyler's two different shoes.

What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?

Everything. I have been listening to her for many years with the J.D. Robb books- she doesn't inject herself into the stories, but enhances them.

Would you listen to A Man Called Ove again? Why?

Yes. I enjoyed the characters and the story and would enjoy visiting both again.

What did you like best about this story?

Most of the men over the course of my life have had some aspects of Ove- the really irritating parts and the really admirable best parts of being men and so different from women. The unwillingness to appear sentimental with a huge heart and capacity to love and nurture.

The story was both hilarious and heartbreaking, but without pathos and without caricatures.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Ove rallies forces to save Anita and Rune (Roon? I didn't read it I listened.)

Who was the most memorable character of A Man Called Ove and why?

Ove. There was nothing false about him.

This is a favorite book of mine, and I could not listen to it. I have listened to other books narrated by Cornelius Garrett, and had no problem with his interpretation, but just could not get over his reading of His Grace, the Duke of Avon. I don't know how many times I have read this book in the last 40 years, but never have I envisioned Avon as peevish and slightly hard of hearing. I don't like giving negative reviews, but just wanted to warn other fans of this novel.

A wild west infested with woolly mammoths, dire wolves, dragons and smilodons? Lewis and Clark failing (probably because there was no Sacajawea)? Thomas Jefferson and Ben
Franklin such geniuses that their spells still can't be replicated? Thoroughly enjoyable.

Books 2 and 3 in the series are equally good.

This is the second D E Stevenson that I have never read, but have discovered on audio. It is an almost P G Woodhouse type book. It has hapless young men, mistaken identities and one very nasty woman who is thoroughly thwarted. There are some very funny character summations by other characters, and the book pokes fun at a lot of English village "types". It is not a big book. It is a rather frothy book, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I have been a HUGE fan of D,E. Stevenson since I read my first "Mrs. Tim" book many years ago, so it was a pleasure to finally get to enjoy her first book. This has everything. An unloved and unappreciated young woman growing into spinsterhood. A lost heir. A despotic father and dead mother. A scheming harpy. Okay, maybe a little too much of everything.

BUT, it has what I love about Ms Stevenson's work. The depiction of everyday life in post-WWII Britain, Redemption through hard work, compassion and friendship.

The reality of life in a fishing village is well drawn, as is the isolation of Emilie living in Bouriston Hall as the unappreciated drudge of her tyrannical father.

I have enjoyed other books of hers more, but this has all of the themes that have made me a fan for so long. There is also the pleasure of an audio book in having the narration in a lovely Scots accent.
