Excellent but won't continue series on audio.
Revisado: 01-08-25
I love this book. The writing brings so much to light about the time of slavery and how people were treated. Tears came to my eyes so many times. I was hooked in the first chapter and couldn't stop. There are a few research errors and plot holes, but the author is very talented and I will definitely continue the series, just not on audio.
I did not really enjoy the narrator. He did a very good job and has a nice voice to listen to, I just couldn't jive with him in this story. I think I would feel like that with any male narrator with a historical fiction like this. As a personal preference I think I would have enjoyed it more with a feminine voice.
I still give this 4 stars. I'm looking forward to the next books in the series.
Thank you to the author and Audible for the promo code I exchange for my review. These statements are my thoughts alone.

Historia
Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good. But as they say, all good things come to an end. One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed-and-breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job - deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there.

Maybe I'm just tired today, but I totally missed the ending. This was a great novella introduction to this author for me. The story was great and very easy to follow. The narrators were both pretty good. I enjoyed this one and will definitely read more of McTiernan's books in the future.

Revisado: 04-06-22
This was my first book by Morgan Busse and I'm so happy I listened to it! Narrator Taylor Meskimen was excellent. I will listen to anything she narrates. I was really intrigued by the steampunk aspect of this world and was trying to figure out how that was going to work. I loved it. But can you say cliffhanger? Book 2 needs to happen very soon!

Historia
Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

I've loved the Harry Potter books since I first read them. I was told that the audio books were worth it and wanted to give it a shot. Jim Dale is an AMAZING narrator! He is so easy to listen to and makes the story really come alive in a different way. Definitely worth the listen!

Great Story, Poor Narrator.
Revisado: 11-29-21
I love the story but the narrator was so hard to listen to. It was difficult for me to finish and actually found myself spacing out at moments and not having a clue about what was going on. Luckily for me I have a physical copy of each book in the series so I will be able to enjoy reading it.
