Historia
Though she knows her brother holds her mother's favor, Ingrid is determined to at least be considered as heir to the family name. She hatches an audacious plan—free a thief from a prison planet from which no one has ever returned, and use them to help steal back a priceless artifact. But Ingray and her charge return to her home to find their planet in political turmoil, at the heart of an escalating interstellar conflict. Together, they must make a new plan to salvage Ingray's future and her world, before they are lost to her for good.

not really a sci fi book.
Revisado: 09-28-18
I think you could place the plot in Victorian England and have zero changes. the characters were uninspiring. The plot itself was uninteresting. The most interesting parts might be the atypical gender pronouns and roles.
My summary is: "Girl from high society family attempts to score political points. For some reason historical artifacts are the most important thing in society. Another society decided to start a war over the death of an archeologist. Girl does the right thing with very little internal struggle."

Historia
As tragedy strikes his multicultural family, Martin struggles to maintain his place in his adapted culture, and to provide for his child. Zendigi explores what it means to be human, and the lengths one will go to in order to provide for ones children. This emotional roller coaster explores a non-Western-European near future that both challenges ideas of global monoculture and emphasizes the humanity we all share.

realistic, human, but uneventful

the story had what I think is an accurate portrayal of how to upload a brain and the limitations of doing so. the characters feel real and the story is grounded. It is well written but not like Egan's earlier works. not nearly as grandiose

good terraforming story

It was the right length for how strong the story was. Good character development and interesting in handling of oppressed vs oppressors in an isolated piece of humanity

Not a great story
Revisado: 02-25-18
story is creative, but I wish the characters were a little stronger. protagonist goes weak kneed when meeting her romantic match for the book. descriptions of science aren't very good and a little jarring. like the science and fantasy are thrown in after the fact
