Book 1: Albion Lost: For centuries, the Daegon waited. They plotted. And now they are ready to strike. The core worlds of settled space enjoy a tenuous peace, unaware and ill prepared for the threat building beyond the furthest reaches of humanity. The star kingdom of Albion stands as a shining light of justice and mercy in a harsh galaxy, and they will be the first to suffer the Daegon's fury. Book 2: The Long March: Commodore Thomas Gage and his fleet, safeguarding the last of the Albion Royal Family, are on the run.

Epic plot.

The story is fast and cut throat with well written characters. The only down side is it throws you into this universe with little to no idea of when, where, and why. But the tale still pulls you in and keeps your attention

Historia
Captain Tom Thrush is patrolling the Octagon Rift when his ship is attacked by a black destroyer that seems to predict his every move. Outgunned and outmaneuvered, he flees in a crippled ship to the only sanctuary he can reach—a den of thieves and spies called Lotus Station. His ship will be broken up for scrap. Half the crew are casualties. The rest are scattering, leaving Tom stuck on Lotus. As the black destroyer hunts down local freighters, Tom becomes obsessed with tracking it down and taking revenge.

A return to gripping space combat.
Revisado: 01-01-24
I did not expect the Green Zone War series to get another inclusion with a definite opening for more to come.
The story is well understood and voice read. The only thing is that this book feels like a 'part 1' kind of book. The ending is well developed but comes in like a butcher knife chopping off the book ending after the final battles concludes.
Still a good listen and looking forward for the next.

Historia
The plan was working perfectly until everything went to hell. A South Korean submarine penetrates North Korean territorial waters to launch a snatch-and-grab commando raid. The kidnapping is an act of vengeance; the target is a North Korean admiral, wanted for the ambush and sinking of a South Korean corvette. The abduction goes off without a hitch. But when the triumphant commandos return to the sub, they go rogue, slaughtering members of the crew in an attempt to seize the submarine.

A good read.
Revisado: 04-24-23
Once again, we are taken into a naval adventure courtesy of the ever heroic and equally complex character that is Jake Slate with the author taking even deeper dives into the "theoretical" area that is modern naval warfare.
The characters are entertaining as before, but we don't really see much development from them. They simply once again get a job, do the job, and complete the job successfully.
The biggest crutch, a repetitive issue in my opinion, is that the antagonist once again is almost randomly made up with a sufficient back story and then swiftly eliminated in the end.
Despite that, it is still a good book for those simply seeking a naval action thriller.

Historia
It begins with greed. It ends with destruction. A military bid for control of the fourth richest oil fields on earth. A high-tech fortress, armed with cutting-edge rail guns and point defense weapons that give it mastery of the sea for more than 100 miles in all directions. An insanely clever commando assault on a snorkeling diesel submarine. At the epicenter of these colliding forces is former US Navy officer Jake Slate, scrabbling desperately for one more impossible military victory.

Thrilling
Revisado: 03-24-23
Rogue Fortress certainly holds up to Monteith's previous works bringing all sorts of adventure and intensity.
The writing and narration is good, yet a noticeable negative is the antagonist of this tale (similar to the last rogue novel) seems to simply vanish towards the end as if only an afterthought.
Despite that issue, the story progresses well and I look forward to the next novel of Rogue Submarine.

Moderately good in tone and action.
Revisado: 02-23-23
Rogue Enforcer is written and read with the same acurracy as previous works, yet there are some small plot holes that seem to be slowly pushed aside while there is also minimal character development from the main line-up.
Jake is still dealing with anger issues (yet his HIV issue seems to be all but ignored by now).
Renard is still the cigarette smoking weasel we know about, with his ego seeming to grow each novel.
Olivia is finally back, but little has changed for her either with her eyes still set on obtaining the throne of the CIA (also little to no mention of her HIV).
By the ending, not much if anything changes, they fight cunningly, win heroically, and gracefully say good by and return to their lives. All in all a rather basic story, but one I still enjoyed listening to.

Historia
The accident changed everything...One moment, Lieutenant Jake Slate was going about his duties aboard the ballistic missile submarine, USS Colorado. The next second, he was sprawled on the deck plates in a spreading puddle of blood and hydraulic fluid. But it wasn't the injury that ruined his life and doomed his military career. It was the rescue effort. Now he's being thrown to the wolves to cover up the misdeeds of a superior officer, and Jake doesn't care for the role of sacrificial lamb.

An entertaining story.
Revisado: 01-21-23
As a fan of naval combat stories, Monteith decently delivers on the challenge of writing about modern day sea warfare and political theater. But, while Craig Good is a fairly talented reader, his almost robotic tone and fast paced speech made the story a bit bland.
That aside, I'm definitely looking forward to listening to the rest of the series!
Overall I'd give it a 7/10.

Historia
Summoned to relieve destroyers that are bogged down by escort duty in the escalating Pacific Theater, the Hayward is met with a rather cold reception. In the eyes of Pacific Fleet sailors, North Atlantic convoy duty pales in comparison to the bloody, carrier-sinking battles of Savo Island and Guadalcanal. However, Atlantic Fleet ships have had to specialize in one thing: anti-submarine warfare. The Hayward is sent off into remote South Pacific operating areas with orders to find and destroy Japanese submarines—but with little expectation of success.

Revisado: 08-02-22
An invigorating story of the heroism and dedication that Deutermann has become known for writing. Though lacking in his common romantic relation like his previous WW2 novels, it focused more on the relationship between a commanding officer and their 2nd in command, and how essential it is for both individuals to understand each other.

An Interesting Narrative
Revisado: 12-21-21
As a fan of the Arthurian legend since before I could read, I am pleased to see its story and characters are still beloved.
This story has certainly an interesting plot with the character of Guinevere, who is more often a side character in the original, taking center stage.
Giving this character such an emotional and relatable story is a nice little change. Arthur himself is as I would picture such a young man as. And the other characters are also well written with personalities that make them relatable and enjoying.
As for the negatives, I personally am not a big fan of the "love triangle" happening between Guinevere and at least three others, but then again this is a tale with young characters (16-20yrs old for the main characters), and we all remember how emotionally confusing our teen years were/are. As for Guinevere, by the end I was left wondering who she is just as much as she was, but it leaves you enticed enough to continue the trilogy.
Spoiler review
Also, gender bending Lancelot, not 100% on board that train but I suppose stranger ideas have been made. She honestly seems like plot armor as there isn't much to her character, though I imagine that may be remedied later. I understand the authors intent to strive for confident and strong willed female characters and she does a good job at describing them even if some are a tad cliche.
Final tally for me is a 7/10.
The authors writing style is very passionate and she keeps character development well balanced. But the complex romancing is a little too much (for my taste at least).

Historia
March 19, 1945: The war in the Pacific approaches its apocalyptic climax. The largest wartime armada ever assembled, Task Force 58, is closing in on Okinawa; once taken, it will finally put American B-29 bombers in range of the home islands of Japan - and victory. Trial by Fire is the gripping novelization of how, against all odds, the sailors of the Franklin were able to save their ship, after three agonizing days of battling the flames that ultimately claimed the lives of 832 men and injured 300 more.

Another successful take of brave men and survival.
Revisado: 12-03-21
A most detailed and endearing story about sailors doing what is necessary to survive and the trials given to those in command. While the story is rather simple when compared to the authors previous works concerning the pacific war, Trial by Fire still manages to fulfill the goal of putting us in the shoes of the brave men who served at sea.
I personally would have enjoyed it if he would've continued the POV of the Japanese pilot, as well as a more expanded after-story, but then again the central plot was always meant to be the USS Franklin, and it most certainly succeeded there.
I greatly enjoyed the book and look forward to more stories about the great Pacific campaign.
