Historia
As a columnist for the New York Times who writes often about spiritual topics for a skeptical audience, Ross Douthat understands that many of us—whether we are agnostic, somewhat religious, or longtime believers—want to have more faith than we do. But we think we can't believe the way our ancestors did, knowing what we know now—can we? With clear and straightforward arguments, Believe shows how religious belief makes sense of the order of the cosmos and our place within it, illuminates the mystery of consciousness, and explains the persistent reality of encounters with the supernatural.

A book for thoughtful theists, atheists and agnostics
Revisado: 04-15-25
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. The author brilliantly weaves multiple lines of reasoning into a very compelling work. I don’t believe an intelligent atheist could read this book without being moved towards having a deeper respect for, and appreciation of, religion.

Historia
Today’s technology has overtaken religion as the chief influence on twenty-first century life and community. In Tech Agnostic, Harvard and MIT’s influential humanist chaplain Greg Epstein explores what it means to be a critical thinker with respect to this new faith. Encouraging listeners to reassert their common humanity beyond the seductive sheen of “tech,” this book argues for tech agnosticism—not worship—as a way of life.

Woke nonsense
Revisado: 11-30-24
If you love wokeness, and want to be lectured to for a few hours, this is the book for you.
The author is relatively smart and insightful, but he is completely unaware of his own capture by another “religion”.

Historia
Like a thief in the night, artificial intelligence has inserted itself into our lives. It makes important decisions for us every day. Often, we barely notice. As Joe Allen writes in this groundbreaking book, “Transhumanism is the great merger of humankind with the Machine. At this stage in history, it consists of billions using smartphones. Going forward, we’ll be hardwiring our brains to artificial intelligence systems.” With an academic background in both science and theology, Allen confronts the paradox of what he calls “good people constructing a digital abomination.”

Before listening to this book, I thought it may lack intellectual depth. I was very wrong. Sure, it’s not a philosophical treatise, but it’s packed with high-quality information and analysis. Prepare for a wild ride covering technology, AI, religion, history, philosophy and a few brief biographies of some very interesting/eccentric people.

Historia
There is a war on masculinity, and everywhere we look—on every front we hold sacred—we can see the painful reminders of this collapsing order. The chaos and crisis we are experiencing today should be a signal for men everywhere to rise up; to fight to preserve our way of life by once again walking the ancient paths. But this isn’t a journey that need be taken alone.

Why Materialism Is Baloney

Historia
The present framing of the cultural debate in terms of materialism versus religion has allowed materialism to go unchallenged as the only rationally viable metaphysics. This book seeks to change this. It uncovers the absurd implications of materialism and then, uniquely, presents a hard-nosed non-materialist metaphysics substantiated by skepticism, hard empirical evidence, and clear logical argumentation.

Brilliant
Revisado: 07-02-22
There are few truly original thinkers in the world - the author of this book is one such person. There are some deep biases and blind spots, but this is to be expected when dealing with such arcane and subtle topics. Let’s hope more people awaken to the limitations and destructiveness of philosophical materialism

Excellent
Revisado: 07-10-21
This book is fantastic. I like Michael Knowles and watch much of his content on YouTube, so I thought I knew what sort of book he would produce. I was still thoroughly surprised at just how well written this book is. Knowles is erudite, articulate and unpretentious. He distils the issues brilliantly. Do yourself a favour and get the book

Historia
This is a study of how intellectuals as a class affect modern societies by shaping the climate of opinion in which official policies develop, on issues ranging from economics to law to war and peace. You will hear a withering and clear-eyed critique about (but not for) intellectuals that explores their impact on public opinion, policy, and society at large.

Historia
A prominent conservative scholar traces the post-1960s divisions between the Right and the Left, taking aim at liberals' victimization of African Americans and their failure to offer a viable way forward for American society. The United States today is hopelessly polarized; the political Right and Left have hardened into rigid and deeply antagonistic camps, preventing any sort of progress.

Understanding the current political landscape
Revisado: 06-23-20
This book has finally allowed me to understand the current political landscape in the US. As someone with conservative leanings, I have found the left’s inability to consider basic and obvious facts disconcerting. This book provides a structure for understanding why this is. It does not excuse it, but makes it clear that much of the left’s misguided policies do originate from a place of genuine concern for minorities.

Historia
An award-winning Financial Times columnist exposes the threat that Big Tech poses to our democracies, our economies and ourselves. Today Google and Facebook receive 90 percent of the world's news ad spending. Amazon takes half of all ecommerce in the US. Google and Apple operating systems run on all but 1 percent of cell phones globally. And 80 percent of corporate wealth is now held by 10 percent of companies - not the GEs and Toyotas of this world but the digital titans. How did we get here? How did the tech industry get to dominate our world so completely?

Fantastic
Revisado: 04-30-20
This book is excellent, exposing some of the nefarious manoeuvres the big tech companies are up to. I used to be enthralled by the likes of Google, Amazon and Apple. Now I’m far more wary of these behemoths.
One warning: the book broadly pushes a left-leaning narrative of politics

Historia
The media often suggest that Russia poses the greatest threat to America's national security, but the real danger lies farther east. While those in power have been distracted and disorderly, China has waged a six-front war on America's economy, military, diplomacy, technology, education, and infrastructure - and they're winning. It's almost too late to undo the shocking, though nearly invisible, victories of the Chinese. In Stealth War, retired Air Force Brigadier General Robert Spalding reveals China's motives and secret attacks on the West.
