Historia
The books of the Bible were written at different times by different authors over a period of approximately 1,500 years from around 1400 BC through 90 AD. The Old Testament was written in Biblical Hebrew, excluding the books written during "the Chaldean captivity" such as Daniel and Ezra which were written in "Biblical Aramaic" during the "Chaldean captivity". Many of the books of the Old Testament bear the names of the prophets who authored them. Moses compiled the earlier parts of Genesis and directly authored the remaining portion.

Such a captivating reader
Revisado: 09-18-24
Alexander Scourby always does a good job reading the bible but I think he ESPECIALLY shines on the Bible's narrative portions! And when it comes to narrating story, Scourby's reading is never any better than here in Jonah. "Out of the belly of hell cried I! The earth with her bars was about me... forever!" You can FEEL Jonah's angst throughout. Most excellent.

Historia
Dr. Rupert Sheldrake, one of the world's most innovative scientists, here shows the ways in which science is being constricted by assumptions that have, over the years, hardened into dogmas. Such dogmas are not only limiting, but dangerous for the future of humanity. According to these principles, all of reality is material or physical; the world is a machine, made up of inanimate matter; nature is purposeless; consciousness is nothing but the physical activity of the brain; free will is an illusion; and God exists only as an idea in human minds.

I just like Rupert
Revisado: 01-15-24
Though I don't agree with a lot of his philosophical views and his notion of morphic resonance isn't
exactly my cup of tea, (Among other shortcomings, it lacks any sort of creative specificity).... still, I'm glad I gave this book a chance. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it.... well... at the end of the day, I just like the guy. I like ol Rupert. He'd be a ton of fun to hang out with on a rainy afternoon to chat on history, science, religion, philosophy, and blue tit birds & their glory days of cream. You'll have to get this book to understand what that's all about.
Sheldrake's mind is always refreshing to hear from, if for no other reason than his fresh kid-in-candystore approach to science is infectious and the subject matter he covers is thought provoking. My own interpretation of the data is often very different from his, but he's a pleasant tour guide through a big diversity of topics.
And a bonus here: he reads his own audiobook - which I think is almost always preferable.

Historia
Alexander Scourby was the first to record the King James Bible on audio in the early 1950s. Since then millions have been sold the World over. Although many have recorded the Bible over the years, no one could ever match Scourby`s unparalleled and majestic reading. The combination of Alexander Scourby reading the King James Bible is an incomparable hearing experience.

Chapter 2 especially
Revisado: 05-24-23
This book is masterfully read. The narrator truly was gifted and anointed to give voice to the biblical text. Chapter 2 especially "WRITE THE VISION, and make it plain upon tables" is read with a prescient urgency: the sort of tone such powerful & contemporarily-relevant words warrant.

Anointed narration of the English bible. The best.
Revisado: 05-06-21
The narrator correctly captures the tone & various emphases of each book, chapter, and verse of the bible. To these ears anyway. I especially like his readings of Matthew, Mark, 2 Corinthians, Exodus, 2 Peter, 1 John, the Psalms.
AUDIBLE, please upload the remainder of Scourby's bible narration; at time of this review, only roughly half the books are available on your site. Missing: Deuteronomy, Proverbs, Job, Isaiah, Daniel, Revelation, and many others!

Just wish Audible had ALL the Scourby Bible books
Revisado: 04-27-21
This is great. The chapter markings and app which has 10% playback speed increments make audible so much nicer to listen to than YouTube BUT it’s a big bummer that Audible only has ~half the 66 books of the Old and New Testamebt by Scourby! I’m going to call customer care and request the remainder be made available!

Historia
Dorothea Brooke is an ardent idealist who represses her vivacity and intelligence for the cold, theological pedant Casaubon. One man understands her true nature: the artist Will Ladislaw. But how can love triumph against her sense of duty and Casaubon’s mean spirit? Meanwhile, in the little world of Middlemarch, the broader world is mirrored: the world of politics, social change, and reforms, as well as betrayal, greed, blackmail, ambition, and disappointment.

Juliet Stevenson -- not perfect -- but CLOSE
Revisado: 07-01-12
Where does Middlemarch rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
One of the best audiobooks I've listened to.
Have you listened to any of Juliet Stevenson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Juliet Stevenson is always fantastic. This might be my favorite of her narrations, though.
Who was the most memorable character of Middlemarch and why?
Rosamond. Stevenson (and Eliot) depicts her in her complexity brilliantly.
Any additional comments?
If you're considering M-march as an audiobook, ignore reviewers recommending other narrators (a few of which I've listened to as well), GET JULIET STEVENSON.
