Real, very very real
Revisado: 06-28-24
This should become required reading in high school. It is historically accurate, and has a realistic plot that keeps you interested. The role of the mother was particularly well written and brings to light conflicting human nature.
Thanks for another wonderful novel Mr. Baldacci!

Historia
It’s the summer of ’77 in New York City, and the only thing more unnerving than the scorching heatwave is the rampant murder, leaving washed-up homicide detective Richard Dietrich on edge. When Dietrich investigates a brutal mob hit the brass doesn’t want him to solve, he goes from phoning it in to getting in over his head. Caught up in a mysterious second homicide with an even more perplexing perpetrator, Dietrich starts to second guess his instincts—and his memory—as he searches for answers at the bottom of a bottle.

Great Performances
Revisado: 05-17-24
Although the plot was predictable, the performance and audio pushed my rating from a 3 to a 4. Realistic depiction of alcoholism.

Slow Narration
Revisado: 12-17-23
I like this genre, and the story line was good. There were a couple of twists you didn’t see coming.
The narration just didn’t bring the story to life. The vocal pace was very slow. I had to turn up the speed to make it through.
I liked the supporting characters very much.
I will try this author again

A little too detailed
Revisado: 07-22-23
The story was good but you knew the ending pretty quickly. Going into that much detail about the sexual acts of a serial killer was a bit over the top. The same impact could have been made without making it weird
The main characters had well crafted back stories- that’s what got my rating up to a 4.
Neutral about the performances

Daughter & Son dynamic duo!!
Revisado: 07-09-23
I LOVE THIS podcast. I don’t even curse and find it endearing. No “fluffy & silly “ talk - just great facts and insights. The family banter keeps it real.
A daughter/father team telling Norma Jean’s story adds a new perspective to her well known life. I listened to all 4 parts in a day. Enjoy!

Faithfully Wonderful
Revisado: 12-06-22
In a world that often portrays Christianity negatively, Politano wows readers with the what it means to be grounded in faith. The examples of grace and honesty are heartwarming. The portrayal of class differences and inherent prejudice keep this book current. Great winter listen!

Every day without fail, Travis Devine puts on a cheap suit, grabs his faux-leather briefcase, and boards the 6:20 commuter train to Manhattan, where he works as an entry-level analyst at the city’s most prestigious investment firm. In the mornings, he gazes out the train window at the lavish homes of the uberwealthy, dreaming about joining their ranks. In the evenings, he listens to the fiscal news on his phone, already preparing for the next grueling day in the cutthroat realm of finance. Then one morning Devine’s tedious routine is shattered by an anonymous email: She is dead.

Baldacchi does it again!
Revisado: 08-20-22
I love Baldacchi’s new main character. This story took lots of twists and turns, they were easy to follow, and kept me guessing.
The “military meets the financial world” theme worked 🤷♀️
The narrator did an excellent job- especially with so many male characters to portray. Highly recommend!
