Tired of the teaser books that force you into endless purchases to complete a story barely worth starting. Much less making it into a saga. Performance great as always, save your time for a true read that is not padding an “authors “ numbers

Not often I run into a book that is so annoying you struggle to even finish it. This is one of those. Yes, I know they are not the great American novel, a true guilty pleasure. However, it still should be worth the listen.

Story- Picture every cheesy, sappy line you have ever read. Every truly cringe-worthy Hallmark sentiment you can imagine. Now double it and you have this book. Most of the story seems to be just a series of over emoted, breathtakingly bad lines strewn together to form this book. You will find yourself rolling your eyes and looking to the sky they are so over the top bad. I could not believe that someone could possibly string this much cheese together outside of a deli. There were times I had to pause it just for relief. Yes, I DID finish the book. It was like Elaine's free sandwich, just had to get to the end. Thankfully it did end and I could block this writer for life.

Performance- Jason does his usual stellar job of making his arrogant unlikeable character reachable through his voice and the inflections he uses. No attempt to add an overly stated southern accent to fit into the theme of this novel, played it like he always does, smooth as silk. Now Virginia is a whole other story. Picture William Shatner as Captain Kirk reading Hamlet. It was truly that bad. At times I really did wonder if this was a parody or at the very least, a Carol Burnett comedy sketch. She was that bad. The lines she read were really bad but add this to her over emoted, breathless and tragic interpretation of them just added to the level of cheese that this novel represents. I can just picture her lying on a divan, head on her forehead struggling to get through her day while still both pining for the man she can not have and reliving the horrific tragedy she has endured. She was so far over the top it was hard to sympathize with her experiences you just wanted her to "Get over it" as Cher would say.

Thankfully it was free but I still feel I should get a free credit just for enduring this pile of tripe. JK Audible learned my lesson with this author and will not make this mistake again.

Girl meets boy of her dreams, family tragedy strikes girl loses boy. Years later they miraculously reconnect. Okay so this is a typical premise for these types of books. With the right words and a proper performance, it would not be an issue.

However, this is not the case here. The storyline is weak and the performances weaker. The girl part is a stereotypical southern belle with the hope of a sexy whisper helping. Spoiler alert, it did not. the male part is just not suited for romance. The voice sounds like a 50-year-old male who is speaking through a kazoo. Not to mention his inflections are off and the emotions attempted fall flat. Granted I could not do better, which is why I do not try.

The good thing it was a free op from Escape. Bad thing is, unfortunately, that is the only good thing I can say about the book. save your time for something stronger.

Painful narration

While the book is a typical Sparks novel, have no problem with that, the narration was annoying to be kind. The female voice was at times a New York accent, at times no accent and most times just plain annoying. Male voice was a phone in at best. Sorry but this just did not do it for me.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This genre is what it is. Light fare for a drive home or while walking around from department to department at work. This however made it three chapters and it was gone. Predictable characters and storyline without inspiration.

What was most disappointing about K.C. Falls’s story?

Not one character you liked or rooted for, not to mention another cardboard cutout leading man

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Narrator's use of inflection was beyond terrible. Some lines read as a teenage girl, some as an excited child, most without any emotion nor a clue as to the context of the line

Did Knowing His Secret inspire you to do anything?

Yes, ensure this narrator is never on any book I choose in the future.

Any additional comments?

Without a doubt s singular waste of time and effort. For the author, narrator and myself.
