A Story Without Agency

MC has no agency. The book is essentially just torture p*rn. He has no power and is just bounced around from one terrible situation to another. By the time you would think that the MC could actually gain some agency or close out a scenario and make a meaningful stride forward the author just drops yet another plot point / worse scenario on the MC. The entire first half of the book also has glacial pacing.

Well... this turned out to be an expensive book because I will have to be purchasing everything Alex writes from here on out. This book is absolutely fantastic! The only other authors that have handled this type of subject matter similarly or have similar humor I can think of would be J L Langland and Nelson Chereta. This is top shelf. Its heartwarming and so humerous. Buy this now, do not hesitate.

I wasn't familiar with Sam's works prior to this purchase. I took a gamble on this book and author and was very pleasantly surprised. This is a top notch magical isakai in the bane of two of the absolute greats.

You will enjoy this book thoroughly if you have read the Last life series by Osadchuk, The Alechemist series by Romanovich or Seth Ring's Dreamer's Throne series. Story is great, the pacing is excellent. The main character strikes a good balance of capability and knowledge without being overly condescending or annoying (An opposite example for context would be anything written by Oleg Sapphire).

This book is worth your hard earned money! I look forward to seeing what Mr. Winton does next.

A very Russian, very Oleg Sapphire book. That is to say, a book about an OP psychopath murder hobo that is isekaied into yet another Russian setting. so what happens in the book? we get to hear about how OP and strong the MC was in his last life. We get to see the character work as a laborer in a run down town. We get to see the MC rent a slum property and have about 7 different people try and extort him for more money. He spends most of the book pretending to unload trucks and murdering nameless, faceless goons that show up at his house. I figure the dude must have killed at least 100 people at his house. Home invasion must be a national past time in fictional Russia.

Book 1 was fantastic and the series looked promising. Unfortunately this book pulled a 180 and its nearly unfinishable. The Author essentially deleted all the characters from the first book aside from the MC, swapped magic systems, and sent the MC on a boring side quest with an annoying female romance interest who is profoundly uninteresting. Its very unfortunate but the series is basically dead.

The book is all about trauma, therapy, trauma this, trauma that. I had the hardest life, no I had the hardest life, no he has the hardest life. Lets go to therapy, lets talk about how therapy made us feel, lets have an emotional crisis and call our therapist. I have nothing against troubled characters but it comes across as young people competing in performative victim olympics instead of something sincere.

I loved the first book, this one has way too much stuff going on. Have you ever heard a little kid trying to tell a story where more and more details keep being added in one right after another without a breath? Tgats what this book is like. Pacing? Never heard of it. Its like attention deficit disorder the book. The first story was phenomenal and this one is just a complete knot of tangled plots that never conclude and keep being added to.

Fantastic story. I can't wait for the next one. the narrator was extremely annoying. He changed up everyone's accents, and it was quite frustrating.

The book is well written, but very little happens, and we make almost no progress. Everything is crammed into the very end of the book. The writer seems like they added too many plots in book one.
