Interesting Concept
Revisado: 10-09-23
Using fairy tales as inspiration for retellings with morals is an interesting idea, and sometimes it works in this book; other times it doesn't fit as well. The narration is fine, but I sometimes found it difficult to follow the story threads.

Great Story, Okay Performance
Revisado: 02-04-20
I had read the book before listening to the audio, so I don't know if it would have come across differently if I was hearing it for the first time. I enjoyed the book, and when given the opportunity to get a free copy of the audio in return for an honest review, I jumped on it. The story is just as intriguing when listening, but it took me some time to get used to the narrator's voice. I felt the character differentiation wasn't as clear as it could have been, so it was more like having the book read than a performance of the book. If you have to make a choice, I'd recommend reading the book; if you prefer listening, then the story makes it worthwhile.

Historia
Hailed as one of the world’s masterpieces of psychological realism, The Death of Ivan Ilyich is the story of a worldly careerist, a high-court judge who has never given the inevitability of his death so much as a passing thought. But one day death announces itself to him, and to his shocked surprise he is brought face-to-face with his own mortality. How, Tolstoy asks, does an unreflective man confront his one and only moment of truth?

Excellent Read of a Great Story

I was intrigued by the description, but didn't know quite what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised at the power and timelessness of the story.
