At times I wasn’t sure I could finish listening, but if people endured that (and I truly believe they did) then I could hear the whole story. We need to learn from history’s many lessons.

So he keeps to himself, writing songs for other musicians, avoiding the spotlight…until the night his father brings him to see Esther Mine sing. Esther is a petite powerhouse with a gorgeous voice. And when Benny writes a hit song and performs it with her, their collaboration thrusts the duo onto the national stage…and stirs up old issues and new scrutiny that the mob--and Benny--would rather avoid.

Historia
Emerson, Georgia, and Marley have been best friends ever since they met at a weight-loss camp as teens. When Emerson tragically passes away, she leaves one final wish for her best friends: to conquer the fears they still carry as adults. For Marley, it's coming to terms with the survivor's guilt she's carried around since her twin sister's death, which has left her blind to the real chance for romance in her life. For Georgia, it's learning to stop trying to live up to her mother's and brother's ridiculous standards and learning to accept love.

I have a new perspective after listening to this. As a 70+ yo woman who grew up with the very first Barbie doll in that black and white striped swimsuit, I have never had a good body image. This story rang true on so many levels. I wish I had read it earlier.

Revisado: 03-19-24
I am not sure about the truth of the story, but I believed every word. It made an era come alive that I know far too little about. And I haven’t even mentioned the giraffes yet. But how could I compete with their story! The narration makes it all the more real and full of life. Well done!
