February 13 is missing
Revisado: 02-13-23
February 13 is missing. It skips from February 12 to February 14. Is there a reason for this?

Scott Adams has likely failed at more things than anyone you’ve ever met or anyone you’ve even heard of. So how did he go from hapless office worker and serial failure to the creator of Dilbert, one of the world’s most famous syndicated comic strips, in just a few years? In How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big, Adams shares the strategy he has used since he was a teen to invite failure in, to embrace it, then pick its pocket.

Historia
A major new biography of the Civil War general and American president, by the author of the New York Times bestseller A. Lincoln. The dramatic story of one of America's greatest and most misunderstood military leaders and presidents, this is a major new interpretation of Ulysses S. Grant. Based on seven years of research with primary documents, some of them never tapped before, this is destined to become the Grant biography of our times.

Nice to see Grant back on the pedestal
Revisado: 11-14-18
Nice to see Grant back on the pedestal where he belongs. I was not sure that I wanted to spend 27 hours on this book, but it was worth every minute. The attention to detail and what the Northwest Territory was like during the era among the other places and times really drew me into Grant's story. If jealous Union generals who saw Grant as a lucky upstart had not gotten in his way, Grant would have ended the Civil War within a year. #Grantbio #CivilWarbio #Historicalbio #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Two power stories well told
Revisado: 11-14-18
Caro focuses on two powerful figures to explain the nature of power, which seems to favor the rich or people with great connections (no mystery there). I was more intrigued by Robert Moses' story than President Johnson's because the former's was less obvious than the latter. Moreover, the book was 2/3 focused on Moses. Overall, I recommend the book especially if you like politics. #powerbios #thenatureofpower #NYTXbios #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Historical fiction at its best
Revisado: 11-14-18
Generally, I do not like historical fiction. I either want history or fiction, not both, but this historical fiction has made me change my mind. The story was compelling and transporting. Engagingly uncomfortable
Revisado: 11-14-18
It was a great story that made me uncomfortable listening to it, because I had to ask myself what is the attraction that many of us have to serial killers' stories? I think that it's just we don't really know the strangers beside us even if they are family or friends. #engagingread #truestory #uncomfortablestory #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

First rate!
Revisado: 09-01-06
I will be taking Mr. Mckee's lecture in LA in a few weeks and I am really looking forward to it. Now that I have listened to his book in his voice, I am even more excited about the lecture. This audio was excellent. He truly is the world expert in screenplay writing. The concepts and techniques that he mentions in the audio are crisp and exciting and I now feel more prepared, confident and skilled to begin my own screenplay. I am expecting the book soon and will review the concepts and graphs before the lecture, and I will also listen to the audio again, because I think it's worth at least one more listening session.

Historia
Alexis de Tocqueville, a young French aristocrat, captured the essence of nineteenth-century America in his penetrating work, Democracy in America. The democratic concept of equality was emerging as a political reality in America, and it threatened the aristocracy of Europe; it produced a society of individualists hungry for self improvement. In this classic treatise, Tocqueville weighed the advantages of democracy against its dangers.

Not bad, not great
Revisado: 09-01-06
I thought that this would be a full reading of the actual book, since the title read "unabridged". However, it turned out to be a spoon-fed narration of the major points of the book. I did not mind the corny French accents that were used whenever Tocqueville or other French individuals were supposed to be speaking, but I found them unneccessary and somewhat annoying. Overall, I give the title 3 stars, but it's hardly an "unabridged" reading of the book.
