Not as good as the first book

I hated the fact that this story essentially eliminated the strength of all the female characters. The super brilliant doctor Dana Rich became a whiny idiot with a bad Indian accent who couldn't think her way out of a wet paper bag, the super strong, intuitive engineer Meta became the weak female hostage trope with totally unused engineering skills, and the smart and brash Lt Valerie became an indecisive person. This was a lot of hostage trope, chase scenes in space ships, ridiculous fight scenes, admirals ignoring sound advice and walking into traps Admiral Akbar style. "It's a trap!" I was bored and it took a couple of weeks to get through. The first book took me two days of listening. I'm hoping book three isn't more of the same. Oh and if the author reads this, for future reference, if you change readers, make sure they know either use the pronunciations of the last reader and can pronounce names like Leonidas. It's pronounced Lee-Oh-Nee-Dass not Lee-On-Ee-Das. Either way, listening to 15 hours of a word said one way and then bring subjected to an entirely new pronunciation is quite jarring.

Had a twist I wasn't expecting. The hallmark of a good book is you're sorry to have the story end. I'm rooting through my library attempting to find something to follow this book with and fill the void but I keep coming up empty. (Pun intended). Love Faith Hunter.

I loved this book. A string female protagonist coming to realize her own strength, hints of darkness within her and a hint of what may become a romantic entanglement. Truly horrifying evil to battle and a story that draws you in. A worthy addition to the Jane Yellowrock universe of characters. Bought the second book halfway through the first!

Excellent book. Love the characters and of course find Oberon hilarious as usual. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

If you love space navy stories like those of David Weber, you'll love this one. Once again, Luke Daniel's narration knocks it out the park. I'm just miffed that only the first two books are available on Audible. I liked it so much I pre-ordered the next book.
